| Question about Laptop batteries |

I go back and forth between an old laptop and my newish one for different projects. When I turned on "old acer" as I refer to it, it said the battery needed to be replaced. I am in the process of looking for a replacement battery , but until it gets here will my computer be okay and continue to work as normal as long as it is plugged in and therefore using electricity instead of battery power?
I am backing it up right now and it seems to be doing okay.
