Hhhmmm......I liked the Jack & the Others scenes of this epy. The flashbacks were ok, felt very similar to the 1st Eko flashbacks (of course, some were actually the same). I'm sad about Eko (though I didn't bawl like I did when Boone died!), I knew it was gonna be him, but I didn't expect him to be killed by the monster! I like the idea of the monster being able to turn itself into people from the Losties pasts. Hhhmmm...LOVE the Jack/Juliet "movie" scene!!!
My least favorite part of this epy is Paulo & Nikki. I don't like how they've just popped up out of nowhere and get to go along on journeys through the jungle with the ass-kicking group of Locke, Sayid & Desmond. I'm kinda hoping they'll be another Arzt, irritating for a little while, then blown to bits, never to be seen again.
Now for the trailer (is it still supposed to be spoilered?)
[spoiler:45156bb512]OMG, Sawyer & Kate!!!!! I think I have truly turned into a Skater (good thing, lol). Even though I think Kate does love Jack more...Can't wait to see what happens with Jack & Ben, and I've heard something big happens with Juliet (not sure if it's in this epy). Also looking forward to the Kate flashbacks, for a vid or possibly 2 vids that I'm thinking about.....lol This 3 month break is gonna suck in a big way![/spoiler:45156bb512] _________________ Heather |

I TOTALLY agree with all of that, Pauly! I'd be very surprised if this whole thing wasn't another mind-game. Especially considering that it really all hinged on Jack happening to see those X-rays. Gee, how convenient was THAT?
And you know what's really weird: I went through the thing that a lot of you are talking about -- not looking forward to the next ep, kinda dreading the next ep, feeling empty when you watch the ep, the whole kit and kaboodle -- last season. It took a loooooooong time for me to get into it, especially since it started with Sawyer off the Island and away from Kate (yes, I live to ship and ship to live... ) then we veered into Sana Country *waves to Ruth* which drove me batty. Desmond was a bright spot in the new people, of course (and he shows how you can bring in a new character in an interesting way and not make them look like bland filler material ) but I was quite numb on a LOT of eps last season.
I actually have been enjoying things again this year. No doubt because I've had a lot of Skate to enjoy, but also because I've liked seeing Otherville and all the goings-on there. Plus... I'll admit it... despite the fact the guy keeps beating the snot out of my beloved Southern boy, I can't help it: I like Ben! He's evil but he's all twisty, which is JUST the way I like my villains! (Note: I'm not saying I think he's a great guy or something, I like him as a villain. It's how I "like" Ethan, as well. I'm not excusing their actions; I'm just enjoying them as villains. If that makes sense. )
I still think what's turning a lot of people off goes back to something I noted last year: the set-up to a story is almost always better than the pay-off. As the story begins to move along, the more we learn cuts off more and more possibilities. The mystery begins to fade. It's an inevitable part of telling a story. Choices will be made that will gripe people (and I've certainly been one of them! ) but again, the only other option is to try to keep the show exactly where it was at the start. The more answers we get, the higher the chance that it's not going to be the answer that somebody wants! Sad but true.
ETA: Heather, I totally *squeed* when I read the first part of your spoiler! YAY!!!!! Come on in, the water's fine!

I think a lot of people are just getting discouraged, for various reasons. However, I think it's safe to say that there are still a lot of people who still love the show *holds up hand* despite its flaws.
Now, if they kill off my Southern boy, I'll revise that statement. I'm SO looking forward to the next ep! I want to vid like a mad viddergirl during this break!
If for nothing else, I'll ALWAYS love Lost because it's the first of any fandom I've ever liked which let me actually create something from it! Without Lost, I don't know that I would've ever actually vidded, because I still don't have much in the way of footage for any other fandom. Lost will always hold a special place in my heart because it's the first -- and maybe only -- fandom I vidded. |

I feel like it's my turn to put in my two cents.
1. Paulo and Nikki really, REALLY annoy me. Everytime one of them opened their mouthes, my friend and I would just yell out, "Who ARE you?!" Just because you know Hurley's name, doesn't make you a Lostie. There were extras in the first season that I recognized the reoccurance of...like, for example, the random bald guy that WASN'T Locke--he was EVERYWHERE. I know that Paulo and Nikki weren't there and so it's just really annoying to me that all of a sudden the writers have thrown us two new faces (are you trying to make up for Boone and Shannon by introducing two brand new pretty people, by the way, writers? Because it's not working for me). We're supposed to care about them, so why not introduce them slowly? Oh, and also...in last week's episode...did anyone else think that Paulo's comment to Desmond about "going off on whatever adventure in the jungle" or whatever it was that he said, was completely out of place? ...I wasn't aware that DESMOND was one of the characters who routinely goes on suicide missions into the jungle. I, mistakenly, thought that he was a pretty new person to the beach-dwellers. Silly me, Paulo, you've been there the whole time, so what do I know? I'm just a dumb fan, apparently.
2. I didn't hate this episode. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it. Actually, I was rather appreciative of the going back and forth between all the different characters instead of watching all Jack/Kate/Sawyer angst. (For the record, I'd be equally annoyed if an episode was completely any other group of characters...this isn't trio hate). My friend kept telling me, "Jen, you have to understand, they're the STARS of the show." Well...yes, but the thing is...in season one it was more of an ensemble show. It was still an ensemble show, for the most part, in season 2, although it did slip for a while, and now all of a sudden it's the Jack/Kate/Sawyer show. Uh, hi, we've seen Sayid, Sun, and Jin for like four seconds save for Sun's flashbacks...?
3. I'm pretty sure that Juliet is beyond full of it, even if she IS growing on me. Jack's going to fall right into it, too. Season One Jack wouldn't have...and I don't even think Season Two Jack would've fallen for it, but Season Three Jack is a pansy, and I LOVE Jack...normally. Last season he annoyed me and this season I just can't bear to watch him for fear that he'll be duped into joining the Others. It's a distinct possibility at this point, admit it.
4. I, too, no longer look forward to the episodes as much as I dread what sort of travesty to the characters I'd grown to love will be committed, but I can't stop watching either. Lately, it's less of "Oooh! LOST!" and more "Hey, it's Wednesday, Lost is on. Are you guys coming over, still?" It's habit, now, not interest. For that, I am disappointed.
...sorry about the novel I've written y'all
ETA: I saw some mentions of Walt earlier in this thread. ...don't even get me started on that _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

*sigh* it's Official:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic
But.... why now, all of a sudden? And jumping the shark, making the plot pointless? Hardly. That's not the problem here. We have more plot development than ever now. It's not the storyline hat's bugging the hardcore fans, it's the lack of continuity in the characters and otherwise ug...
This is making me feel bad. The only thing worse than the writers screwing up is them being forced into another screw up caused by stupid fans deciding what they want, and the poor people making Lost having to change their stuff to fit it. It's what gets these situations where things don't quite make sense - because they have to jam a hundred different useless things that the fans keep asking for into each ep ! I wish we could just lock the damn writers in the hatch, just leave them to write the show how they want, and accept whatever the hell happens... Actually, better yet, I wish we were all... Marcus. Yes, that's what should happen, everyone should just drop what they're yelling, sit back and watch or don't watch, without any expectations... but unfortunately everyone *can't* do that, because when one side begging for proper character development, and closure for Season 2, stops complaining, then the shift heads over to the others who want pure plot, and don't care about anything else. Ug.
At least we can be happy that everyone is complaining Who knows! Maybe it will do something! Like get our show cancelled . What's worse than Locke not quite acting the way we come to expect him to? Being eaten by a Polar Bear in a hack-and-slash series finale halfway through Season 3! that's what
"That's the thing you come to learn about Carl, his undying ability to destroy the things he loves."
Well... you know, I watch, I see the problems, I still care what happens, but I don't look forward to things as much anymore. But that doesn't mean I've given up hope on the show. Even if every single step of the way is awful (which is not this season, as far as I'm concerned) then Lost is still greater than the sum of its parts... It's still an idol of what modern tv shows can be... and still leading it. Compare Lost to Heroes, Prison Break, or whatever else, Lost is still on a whole other level than those story-based mystery shows. I mean, the only show I can think of that I can consider better that I regularly watch (in this genre), strictly in terms of writing quality, is House, and it's on a whole different playing field, which is just unfair to compare to Lost.
Blah, frustrating turn of events though huh? Ug.
I'm taking a page from Marcus' book, and letting this one ride out. |

...I'm with you guys, even if I do feel the need to rant a little from time to time. If I bottled it all up, I'd explode and then I'd be unable to watch anyway. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

On that point, I'm in total agreement with you. The character continuity has been almost stunningly bad over the course of these 3 seasons (aka 2 hours in "Lost time" or so they keep telling us... ). People seem to conveniently "forget" what just happened, or gloss over things that they should be a little more concerned about.
Hey, maybe we're going to find out that all sources of water on the Island are tainted with Ethan's Famous Happy Juice, (TM) motto: "Drink this and forget all your troubles! And no, it doesn't taste sour to me..."
And Jen, I TOTALLY agree with you on the Paulo/Nikki thing. I find her a great deal less annoying than I find him (he hasn't "earned" that attitude he's got with me yet, lol Half the time, I just want to slug him. ). I don't have the urge to just completely knock her block off yet, so that's a step up. BUT... I don't buy them as Losties at all. And that...is a problem. They don't fit in with the group because we haven't seen them before. Yet now they're jumping in and going on adventures with "our" people like they belong there?
In my oh-so-humble opinion, I'd rather see those precious minutes of screen time go to the people I already know and care about, not over to these two as they try to round them out as characters. We've still got PLENTY of people in the cast and they would be much better served getting all of the character development etc. rather than wasting it on new faces. If these two have a purpose in the overall story, that's going to practically be a miracle, IMO... |

Yeah, okay, the continuity thing is beyond ridiculous. I'm choosing not to go off on that because I could go on forever.
As for Paulo/Nikki, the things that bother me even more than them posing as Losties are:
1.) Paulo/Desmond conversation about golf clubs. Sorry, Paulo, but Desmond is a couple Island days old, as far as YOU should be concerned...Jack, Locke, and the rest of the "hatch" crew from last season know him, but he like JUST landed on your beach, so you know nothing about him, do not profess (inaccurately) such.
2.) Nikki has this thing about stating the obvious. Then again, this goes hand in hand with the character continuity thing, but...hi, Nikki? Locke KNOWS about the TVs and he KNOWS what they do. Thanks for trying to point it out though, even if it was a completely useless dialogue. Oh, and Locke? ...are you pretending that you don't know what the TVs are for, or did you actually forget? If you forgot...wow. I'm hideously disappointed in you. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

Totally agree. Plus, the fact that I actually like and care about Desmond makes me want to smack the guy who's giving him 'tude.

To me, that whole TV thing was COMPLETELY to try and prove how "valuable" Nikki is to The Team. "Thank goodness we had Captain Obvious here or we NEVER would've known about those TVs!"
And maybe Locke, saddened by the fact he's never going to have a girlfriend on the Island, decided to try and get some points in with the new chick: "Wow, you're SO SMART! I love the way your mind looks in that tank top..." |

WOW. I literally laughed out loud. I'm 100% with you. My friend Danelle ACTUALLY said, "uh, thanks Captain Obvious..." with the TV thing, which is why that was so funny to me _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

I'm so glad that people share similar views on Paolo and Nikki. Maybe they'll grow on me but I think the writers are making him have that "bad boy/I don't give a rat's a**" character going on and there is only room for one bad boy and that's Sawyer. I bet (its probably true) they were added as eye candy since the Big 3 are all on one side of the island. I don't know about you but too much candy makes me sick

SAY IT LOUD AND SAY IT PROUD SISTA!! LoL. I've been saying this myself and I 110% agree. They don't need to add new characters such as theirs when they already have a huge pool of characters already. Plus, alot of their time so far is just spamlight, I hate it.

Perfect quote Hobbes, from a good remake of a good movie . I read somewhere that JJ will now be more involved in the writing (I guess he wasn't so much in second season?) so that may be good. LoL, I watch House but I think it's more CSI than it is Lost.

Whoa whoa whoa, cool it down there. This almost makes me want to get all hostile (Now I know how Ais felt ). While I agree season 2 Jack sucked, except the first flashback I can't see where you're coming from for season 3? All the island stuff I think is good and I believe season 2 developed him well (for what it's worth ) for how he is in season 3 which is far away from what he was in the first season. Sure he might be being played but he is at least stirring up some conflict like Henry did to him and Locke. Besides, Sawyer was "conned"... _________________

Eep, please don't get hostile. I LOVE Jack. I really, really do. He's always been one of my favorite characters, but really...I understand the whole Do No Harm issue with doctors, but seriously, why is he HELPING them? Why is he starting to TRUST them? Juliet's pretty; I get it. But, for example, was it me they kidnapped, separated from my friends, and locked up in a freakin' aquarium...when she came to ask for my help, I would've shot her a nasty-natured double SU-FI and been like "Oh, well that's just too damn bad, because I'm too busy being kept on display like a zoo animal to help you right now. You're on your own." Jack didn't even trust Kate and Locke all the time and he "knew" them...it's so out of character, in my eyes. It's frustrating...very, very frustrating.
As for the stirring up conflict between Ben and Juliet the way "Henry Gale" did with he and Locke...that's about the only thing I've liked about Season Three Jack and it makes me sad...I miss the Jack I grew to love. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

Okay wow I dont even know where to begin!
KC- I gotcha. Its nice to know others (Hobbes, Ais) went through the "dread" thing too. Thats how I was last season- I was actually reallllly happy when the season ended- the "pressure" was off! My nerves couldnt handle it! But I totally understand if you want to stop watching...its just funny for me at this point (hears collective gasp around forum). Its like watching a really bad horror movie (which is my forte). I liked the ending, with him walking off with his brother...
As for the Juliet thing:
[spoiler:488526c56c]Shes a weirdo. I agree with Paul that shes 100% untrustworthy, but from reading other "articles" coughcoughspoilerscough I think Jack doesnt kill him "under the knife" or even starts the operation. I think she blows him away on the beach.
[/spoiler:488526c56c]
I agree with Hobbes- its a sad glimmer of hope each episode, and sometimes you can see the show you loved peeking out. Except when they do the weird COMPLETLEY out of character thing like LOCKE- HUH? My family and I were saying "WHO ARE YOU?" about Paolo and Nicki too. So Kate and Sawyer arent on the beach, so they bring in a blonde "Kate" and a Brazilian "Sawyer"? _________________

Well, I am shocked to hear all of your responses, if you haven't guessed already...
You have got to be kidding ME!!!! I absolutely LOVED this episode, I love Eko's episodes and this was the best one yet. We only knew Eko for a short time, but he became one of my favorite character's... it was sad to see him go but I loved the ending scene (walking off with his brother was sweet). Either you guys are spoilering yourselves silly too much or just not simply enjoying these great episodes! In my opinion the scenes in this one were far more powerful than any other episode this season (and maybe even than last years). This episode was overflowing with the theme of faith in God. LOST isn't just for it's explosions you know, it has meaning and relevance to our lives. (That's what makes this show great)
I feel strange... I have this wonderful feeling, I don't know what it is but, I think this show has gotten waaay better than I imagined. This Season is starting to look more awesome than any other season. I am soo looking forward to the rest of this season. I don't know what to tell you guys, but I am soo happy.... THIS SHOW ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOTE: this is all my opinion, so if you are gonna bash on me, dont bash too hard ok? And if any of you seriously loved this episode as much as me speak out! |

LOST is becoming more and more irritating for me, seriously. I haven't watched this episode yet, and to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure I want to.
I just watched some of my season 1 DVDs the other day, and darn it, the show's changed so much! In season 1 they handled the characters, 'ships, situations in a much more subtle way, which was great! Not to mention that NO other "new mystery" they've added now has surpassed all the curiosity and anxiety over what "was inside the Hatch" from season 1.
They're just dragging this show way too much for my liking.
And I agree with Aislynn, it's time for more AU vids!
