As if my Brokeback Island video hasn't given me enough random fame already...I have even more news. A few weeks ago I got an email from a staff writer at the Washington Post saying she was doing an article on mash ups and she wanted to interview me. So the next day I called her and we talked for a good half hour about many different aspects of vidding. Of course I name dropped LVI like crazy....and it made it into the article!

ABC never complained about the use of video from the show, said Molly McRoberts, 18, of San Diego, who works on the site. But then one of the participants used a song by rock band Nickelback in a mash-up video.

"Their record company sent us an e-mail saying people had used Nickelback's song and they didn't want Nickelback's songs being used," said McRoberts, who noted that no one was trying to make money off the mash-up video clip. "Why do they even care? We're just a little Web site."

I'm kind of bummed that she only used that one part in her article, seeing as I just kind of mentioned it in passing (plus it wasn't that huge of a deal for those who didn't hear about it). But still, LVI's address has officially been published in a nationally distibuted source!

I actually love the fact that they point out Nickleback as one of the few remaining bands that still doesn't 'get it' in regards to mash-ups.

Well, actually, that whole Nickelback thing wasn't really regarding LVI, it was a request for Heather (Uruviel) to remove them from her site, and so she passed on the warnign to us here that Nickelback's managers could be stalking here too.

I'm just glad the article wasn't defamatory. Though the "mash-ups" thing is a little off the neutral base lol.

That's so great about the Washinton Post article! You guys are becomming major celebrities...

I don't understand why singers would object to their song being used in fan vids. It's like free publicity since it's standard for the video to credit them at the end. Allison Crowe has actually seen my Hallelujah video (she a canadian indie singer...and she's sending me a cd!! - I'm checking the mail everyday.

) Her manager is actually encouraging us to used her songs for our vid. I've become a huge Muse fan because of the vids I've seen here... and one of my friend bought a Simple Plan's album because of vids she's seen on the site. So I really don't understand why someone wouldn't want their songs used.

But yeah for The Washington Post. But I hate the terminology...Mash-up? ew.ew.ew. I prefer "fan vid".
