As for me, I've decided to not try to do anymore vids for a while. I'm just getting nowhere with any of them and it's time to either give up for a while or completely tear my hair out. And I might catch a cold with no hair, so...

Aww I'm sad that you're taking a break from vidding, Aislynn... but something tells me that when the time is right to get started again, you're gonna bang out some bad ass vids, so I guess I can wait

Currently, with Ais's help with altering clips (since I only have WMM1 and it sucks total butt), I'm working on fine-tuning a Lost/Dead Like Me crossover to various songs and as a side project I'm also tweaking a Dead Like Me vid to the song Three's A Charm by The Starting Line.

Once I finish this #%$&@ season 2 vid (even with Warren's awesome ideas, I'm still struggling!!), I'm gonna do a C/C vid--haven't done a normal (not Disney I mean) one of those in a while. And if someone else uses this song before I do, I'm still doing it! I don't like to tell my songs before I make the vid, but right now, this song I've thought of is absolutely GREAT for C/C...who knows, after I think about it more, it might suck. We'll see!

I know exactly what you mean! I almost always jinx myself by telling too much about my vids before I do them!

And thanks for the kind words, Heather and Jen! I did manage to finish my Date vid, thankfully! Whew! And now I'll take a bit of a rest, then see if I can come up with something for KC's Recut Trailer Contest.

After that, I still have the Sawyer/"Flawed Design" one I'd love to do if I could ever "crack" a few of the problems I'm having with it. I also have a Hurley/Hurlielle vid in the planning, a Locke vid on that's got about 11 seconds started on it, (I'm excited about this one if I can pull it off! ) and a (hopefully ) interesting take on my beloved (and fairly well-covered already ) Skate.

But those are ideas for another day... *mystical music, sound of wind blowing and wind-chimes jingling*

Well not really "rules", but a topic that has recently become serious to me. This is NOT a "think tank" thread. Getting INSPIRED by someone else's ideas is fine...but taking over someone else's idea is WRONG- not illegal or anything, but insensitive, infuriating and just plain rude. I will not name names- but I did announce a video in here a while back. Imagine my surprise and anger when I went to vote on videos and I saw it- same exact theme, same exact song, same exact characters. My only consolation was that it wasnt done very well.

But it hurts. Like I said, inspiration or homages are fine and dandy. Taking over someone else's ideas is NOT cool. This is going to sound a bit harsh, but if you arent creative enough to come up with your own ideas, you arent creative enough to vid.

Seriously, though, as harshly worded as that statement is, I have to say that I totally agree with you. It's just effing rude to steal someone's idea. I'm terrified that will happen to me, so when I discuss ideas of vids I want to do I'm either VERY vague or I'm talking to Aislynn who, I trust, needs MY vidding ideas to help her about as much as she needs a hole in the head.

Basically...someone had to say it and I think that on a subject like this, the harsher, the better. In other words, well said.

But it was like REALLY upsetting to me, I have no idea why. I mean I know I dont come out with vids really FAST , but I feel when I do, its worth the wait. So months of work...

But I agree 100% with you on Aislynn, I dont post here anymore (ahem- Welcome to the jungle issues) but that really sucked.

Wasn't around when all that was going on I don't think, but no matter where I post, I don't give out any ideas because I'm just paranoid like that, and afraid that I'll jinx myself. I agree with you though, putting up ideas isn't the best course of action, because though I'm sure most on here are mature enough not to steal ideas and use them as their own, there are always a couple of bad seeds lurking around the corner. Right now I'm saving the possible 'final copy' of my August Contest vid, and if I can get a couple of clips from someone before the end of the month, I may go back and do a little tweaking, but most likely, I'll be putting up the vid tonight....if it doesn't take too awful long..I haven't been to sleep yet and I have to be at work in 8 hours.

That really, truly and definitely sucks what happened to you, Ruth! Like you said, maybe it's not illegal or anything like that, but it sure is rude. I know you probably feel a little soured on the idea but I think you should still do your original idea if you would still like to. You'll put your own distinctive stamp on it! I'd still love to see what you have to say with it!

The original idea behind this thread was so that we wouldn't unwittingly start work on vids using the same song, I believe. This was back when we were a smaller community and it was just a sort of politeness thing.

Now it's evolved into something more like a moral support station (in my opinion ). It's where I come to say (in my oh-so-special-generic way ), "I'm working on a new Sawyer vid!" or whatever. I almost never give my song or a specific idea (though I did "call" "Flawed Design" just because I figured somebody would probably do it before I could and I wanted to at least have proof that I thought of using that song, too... ).

It would really suck though if somebody read that post of mine, THEN decided, "Hey, she's so slow at vidding, I'll run out and do a Sawyer vid to that song and trump her!" That's just...mean. And uncivilized. And rude. And other bad stuff that you just don't want to be!

Two vidders coming up with the same song or similar ideas on their own isn't that uncommon because we all have the same material to work on and there are only so many songs out there and only so many ideas that can link songs to the Lost footage. I can't tell you how many times I'll have an idea for a vid to a certain song only to see a vid come in that uses "my" idea and song! It's frustrating but I know that "them's the breaks." But to think of somebody taking over my idea deliberately... Oy! That really steams me!

I'm just really sorry to hear that happened! *gives Ruth a cookie and permission to make her vid that'll just kick the livin' stuffin' out of the other vid*

Aislynn, I saw you posted your new vid and I'm dying to watch it! At the moment I'm pushing to finish this season 2 vid and the first thing I'm gonna do after that is watch your Date vid!!!

Ruth, I agree with what you said...however, I remember you mentioning Welcome to the Jungle just when I was finishing up my Welcome to the Jungle...I didn't step on your toes without even realizing it, did I?? There has only been one time when I made a video to a song that I knew was already used and using the same ship (Poison, Skate). My feelings on using a song already used by someone else, if you really want to use a certain song, try to make it a different character/ship or have a totally different "feel" than the one already made.

Again, Ruth, if I offended you, I totally apologize...
