LVI's first Featured Council Member is.....Heather (Uruviel)!



Heather has been an exceptionally active member of LVI for over seven years. She rose from being a beloved member, to an integral Council Member, to now being the Moderator of our favourite website.

As the longest running Council Member of LVI, creator of over 200 videos, and the highest voter on the site, Heather was the clear first choice for our first Featured CM interview.


1) What got you interested in vidding?

I started out making vids of gymnasts and figure-skaters. I remember being bored with just making graphics, and I got the idea to put together video clips with music – I didn’t realize this was something that was fairly popular around the internet! Then I moved onto vidding Lord of the Rings, then Lost and that’s when I found LVI!

2) Do you have a tip, trick, or technique you'd like to share?

I always print out the lyrics to the song I’m vidding to, and use that as a guide to keep up with the storyline, and also to just make notes about the vid, even timing cues. I use a separate audio program while I am actually putting the clips together in Vegas.

3) What are your favorite current fandoms?

I think my favorite fandom will always be Lost, especially when it comes to vidding. I also love Lord of the Rings and Twilight. I really want to get into vidding The Vampire Diaries and Fringe.

4) What was your first vid and what is your favorite vid you've done?

My very first vid was about Michelle Kwan to the song Fields of Gold. I thought it was really good at the time, but it was not very technical, lol! My favorite vid, that’s a tough one! Probably End of the Summer, it sums up the ending of Lost pretty well, or You Don’t See Me, I’ve just always liked this vid so much!

5) Do you have any goals as far as skill improvement or dream projects?

As a vidder, you can always improve in many ways. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a vid to have the “look”, meaning coloring-wise, that I want. As for dream projects, there are many, many songs that I’d like to vid to that could be make really epic vids, but I always kinda shy away because they feel too big, if that makes sense. Hopefully soon I’ll take a stab at some of them!

6) What role does beat-use play in your vids? Is it something that comes natural to you, or something you have to really work at?

Beat use is really important to me, I think it makes a vid look very cool. There is such a thing as too much beat use, but I try to always hit most beats in my vids. It really depends on the song, if it’s a song I know well, the beat use is pretty easy. Definitely doesn’t come natural, if you’ve seen my early vids, lol. When I started playing bass, that taught me how to follow the timing better.

7) Do you tend to hear a song you want to vid and then come up with something to vid to it? Or do you come up with a vid idea and then hunt for songs?

I go about this both ways. Some of the time, I have an idea for a vid, a certain ship or character, and then search for a song that will work. Other times, I hear a song that just screams “VID”, and usually go straight to work on it. Every now and then, I put my Ipod on shuffle and try to vid the first song that comes up!

Congratulations Heather; I'm always impressed with how on top of things you are; for instance the voting; as a vidder I love how you always vote/comment on vids; I think it's amazing. And WOW I had no idea you had that many vids either; great work.

I liked your answer to question 7. That sounds like a challenge to do a vid to whatever song came up first on IPod shuffle.

Yeah, Macaila, it's really a challenge when I do the shuffle thing. I usually only try that when I'm kinda stuck on vidding ideas at the moment.
