Something just dawned on me...

Alex is born and kidnapped in about 1988, four years before the purge. We're pretty much led to believe that although Ben is associating with/working with The Others prior to the purge, he is still living with/working for Dharma, too. So my question is, how did Ben care for Alex during the first four years of her life and still live/work in Dharmaville?

Is this just a plot hole, or does anyone know (or have any ideas) how this would have all worked out?

well, we don't know *exactly* when the Purge played out, so it was probably before Ben took Alex, especially as Ethan was there when he took him

I'm gonna go with what Millie said - otherwise it's just a plot hole. And I like to pretend Lost doesn't have plot holes even though it totally does.

I think it is a plot hole (at least, it's not addressed properly in the show). Lostpedia says The Purge took place roughly around 1992 (I think, I remember looking this up for my OC fic), which means Alex was around for that and was about 4 years old. It's not clear exactly where she was or how Ben took care of her though. She's not even mentioned during Ben's FB episode, is she? :\

A lot of things weren't addressed on the show. Like how if Ethan voluntarily went with the others or if he was kidnapped.

I just think the writers bite off more then they could chew and didn't want to admit it because everyone already knew.

It bothered me too. I liked Ethan, I thought he was interesting and personally I just think the writers took on more then they could handle for a show that later became a 17 episode show.
