I think setting up a separate YouTube account is way overcomplicating it to be honest, not to mention the fact that people might want to keep their own comments, ratings etc.
On ff.net we just upload them to our own accounts when we're ready. The secret part is that no one knows who's got who until the fics are posted.
And when I used the example of Kat and Nikki, I didn't mean they would choose each other, I just meant it's easier to pair people up based on their previous vids. For example, a Jater (like me) would have a hard to getting inspired to make a Skate vid. It reduces the likelihood that people will pull out because they can't get it done in time.
Oh and the person who organises the Secret Santa on ff.net usually participates, unless there's an uneven number of people. I don't see how that's any different to CMs entering the competitions. |

| Does it really have to stay a secret? I was just thinking that it would nice for people who work hard on their vids to get the credit and for the people they make them for to be able to thank them. |

well then i guess its not really secret santa lol..im fine with whatever is done but i dont think the one YT account wouldve been so complicated. itd be like with collab groups, how the video everyone has collabed on is put up on the collab channel but then each person usually uploads their sperate part to their account for the comments and rates..so im sure ppl wouldve uploaded their video also just on their seprate accounts later for the comments/rates, but to initailly keep it secret, uploaded it to the joint account. but since its not secret i guess youre saying, then no need lol. so yea anythings fine with me |

| I guess my question then is, does someone else want to organise it? Or at least take on some of the smaller tasks? I'm applying for jobs (some with pretty indepth selection criteria) so I don't have a lot of time at the moment and I don't have the broadband to collect and upload everyone's vids -- unless everyone is going to do it themselves. |

Setting up the YouTube channel (and email address), giving everyone the password, creating the watermark (although I'm not sure how that would work). That sort of stuff.
Obviously compiling the list of participants/requests and assigning them someone to vid for (then notifying everyone through PMs) is going to be the biggest task.
Are we going to set up an account here too? Like the Council's? That's another thing that would need doing. |

*throws in two cents*

Unless you're going to compile them into a single, collab vid, I wouldn't suggest having a collab account at LVI for that, but rather just have the people submit them under their own names after the reveal has been done. (Unless you're planning on never revealing the vid makers, of course. But I've never seen a Secret Santa where the vid/fic creators weren't revealed... )
Anyway, even a collab account is held to the 5 vid a month rule, so that could run you into problems if you have more than 5 individual vids you want to submit. |

It could be someone who doesn't mind being on on the secret. We did a secret pals thing for color guard at school, and the two captains organized everything - they knew who everyone had for secret pals and they also participated.
So meh, that's my two cents for what it's worth. There could be one or two people who were in on everything/organizing everything if you wanted. _________________

I agree with Ais, I don't think I've ever heard/been in a Secret Santa without a reveal at the end. Why don't we just set a date, and everyone waits and uploads their videos to youtube/LVI on that day? Then everyone will figure out who is who, but not at random or before that date? I think that's pretty simple and the least amount of work for everyone. Then again, I've been sick all day and night, so my fevered brain can only do simple. Besides, if we had a youtube channel that everyone had access to, people would be watching all the vids before Christmas and I dunno about you, but if I know the person and their vids, I could probably guess who made my vid anyway, so that defeats the purpose a little. hehe _________________

I can do it, it's just that way I originally planned to run it was very simple -- just filled requests using the name "Secret Santa" to make it seem more festive -- but it's becoming too elaborate for one person to organise.
Like Aislynn pointed out, we're going to have to link the vids to our own accounts to post them over here, so why not just upload them there to begin with? Like Allie said, we can just choose a date and have everyone reveal who made what at the same time. |

I wasn't getting annoyed, just really confused, but then I probably should have been a bit less casual about the whole thing. You'll have to bear with me -- I've never organised anything like this for a forum before.
I think the best way to get things moving is to set a closing date for signing up/requests so that everyone gets their assignments in plenty of time. I'll go back and edit the first post now to add that information in. |
