Just watched 'Tapeheads' (1988), with John Cusack and Tim Robbins. I like both actors; it was entertaining to see them in a silly/stupid-style comedy a la Adam Sandler. I enjoyed the movie although it wasn't great art; I think having actually talented actors in the lead roles makes it better. Nice spoof on the music biz, worth a rental when you don't want to watch something taxing. 6/10. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Just got done with 'Coraline,' which I'd meant to catch in the theaters because of its creepiness, but never got around to it. Good story; I like that the little girl Coraline wasn't sweetness and light. I normally hate 3D animation; in this case, it worked for the story because it gave it an 'uncanny valley' effect. The last third felt a little rushed; I think if it had told the ending a little slower, it would have been slightly better. 8/10.
Now watching 'The Minus Man,' which I've seen before but not in a while. Owen Wilson is good as the poisonous serial killer; Sheryl Crow still can't act; Brian Cox is always entertaining. 6/10 from memory.
Speaking of Brian Cox, 'Rob Roy' is on tonight; although I recognize it's a flawed movie, it's one of my favorites for the villainous trio of Cox, John Hurt, and Tim Roth (the three of them, and the incredibly literate and well-written script, make a really enjoyable movie out of what could have been a boring and plodding one. Even if Jessica Lange can't adopt a Scottish accent to save her life, to say nothing of Eric Stoltz!) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Saw The Road the other day with Viggo Mortensen. It was a good movie just it's very bleak. I always love anything post apocalyptic so I ate it up. 4/5. _________________

I saw "Precious : Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire". Although a modern day Color Purple it didn't really stir the same kind of emotions in me. I believed it was very well done with portraying child abuse but it made me more angry that this stuff goes on whereas the Color Purple was more harrowing and more about moving on from the past - which also has the ability to make me cry buckets!!
I'd give it 7/10 _________________

Watched Sweet Home Alabama last night per my mom's recommendation (I trust her choice in movies ) and it was very cute. Kind of a different sort of chick flick. Didn't turn out like I thought it would. _________________

You're lucky you can trust your mom's choice in movies. Mine? As a 65-ish-year-old, she wanted to see 'Inspector Gadget' (!!!) because of "All the cool gadgets and stuff." (Fortunately, she hated the actual movie, although that's no justification for her terrible taste. Humming the 'Inspector Gadget' theme around her has since become an in-joke in our family, whenever something about my mom's taste in TV, movies, or music comes up.)
My dad's good for movie recommendations, though. After we all watched 'Dead Man' about a decade ago (Johnny Depp's best film), he kept an eye out for the director, Jim Jarmusch, and recommended 'Coffee and Cigarettes' to me when it came out. After I got back from South America, he recommended 'Salvador' (w/ James Woods) in it, and that's definitely a great film (Woods' twitchy journalist is highly entertaining as he braves his way through the brutality of the era in El Salvador). So I can trust him, anyway. Just not mom. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Just saw "The Fourth Kind" - LOVED IT! I got a great thrill out of it I was actually disappointed to find out:
[spoiler:cbc736fece]that it wasn't real lol[/spoiler:cbc736fece]
It was made really well; I loved the unique way they filmed it and Milla was awesome A good thriller/horror movie I highly recommend _________________

Shutter Island.. hmm guess I'll spoiler tag this too.
[spoiler:b61f5ac767]So the twist was pretty obvious although I really liked his last lines that suggest he was putting it on at least at that point anyway. Film was enjoyable enough the soundtrack put me off though way over the top.[/spoiler:b61f5ac767]
3.5/5 Decent movie but seems overrated from reviews I have read. _________________

Saw Remember Me last night and really liked it. I know some people were upset/offended by the ending, but I really liked it and I thought it added a lot to the theme of the movie.
...I look for themes in everything. I'm a literary person. _________________

I have not seen that film, Eryn, so am speaking from ignorance, but with regards to the ending (spoiler-tagged for those who don't know about it yet.)
[spoiler:ef30613cc8]I'm surprised that it wasn't just a cheap ploy to appeal to the audience's sensibilities, since that's the main critique I've heard of it. Is Rob Pattinson's character narrating from beyond the grave, as a 9/11 ghost, then? (I know the final shot is him looking out the window of (I think) Tower One on 9/11/01, but won't be seeing the film, so it's not a big deal to me one way or the other beyond just idle curiosity.
I know people who died in the Towers (acquaintances, not close friends/family) and resent the event being used for cheap pathos or cheaper jingoism or racial/religious/etc. hatred from asses like Rush Limbaugh, but I also hate it being whitewashed (ie footage of the Towers erased from 'Spiderman'), so if nothing else, I think it's a delicate balance when it's presented in films. I'm curious if, in your opinion, this balanced.[/spoiler:ef30613cc8] _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.
