I know not everyone can do this, but I still thought it was kind of cool. I saw on Google that tonight from 8-9pm (your local time) is "Earth Hour", where people are encouraged to turn out their lights for one hour. Google is supporting this by getting the word out, and their page is all black today.

Even if you can only turn out the lights in your bedroom for an hour, or get your family/roommates/etc. to participate by minimizing the light usage, it still seems like a pretty cool idea. It seems kind of fun to have an excuse to turn out the lights for an hour, and maybe even turn off the TV and computer, too! LOL!!! Here's the info...

As to why we don't do this permanently - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display. I participated!!!! lots of places over here did. they had this live coverage of the city and when it hit 8 all these lights went off, lol it was cool

We did, too! It was actually kind of fun! I had a small flame on an oil lamp going so we could see our way to the bathroom and stuff (LOL!) but we mostly just sat outside and enjoyed the evening.

In the newspaper there were all the pictures of the world's main cities skylines. London is officially disgraceful. lol. Almost every other city had at least dimmed their lights!
