I think I understand most of the part 1 story, but could you describe it a little for me, so I know.....

And sure I can explain part 1 for you.

Kate was married to an abusive husband and her and her daughter end up in the hospital one night after getting beat up and they think Kate stabbed her husband(we find out in part 2 it was the daughter) So Kate takes the blame and is arrested. She later escapes. Thats when she runs into Claire and decides to stay with her so she can be close to where her daughter lives( spy/keep tabs on her.) Eventually she gets caught after checking up on her daughter at the hospital after she gets hurt at school . The rest I think is pretty self explanatory. Oh and on the Kate/Claire relationship: Claire started to have feelings for Kate since they were raising Aaron together and that's why she was so upset when Kate left. I think Kate had feelings for her too but then she ran into Jack.
