I guess the best of way of saying it is thus - as a movie, it was pretty decent and fun. As an adaptation of a book, it was terrible.... |
I do agree with you here.
Except, as an adaptation of the book i really don't think it was that terrible, they did put a lot from the book in, but I would have been nice to see a bit more.
I hope it didn't seem like i was attacking just you when i said that it's "unrealistic for people to expect them to fit every single scene from the books into the movies... they’re only setting themselves up to be disappointed" I wasn't talking about you. I was just saying that some people I’ve talked to about the movie (some of my friends who I saw it with) really didn't like it for that reason.
Sorry if you felt you were being attacked, i didn't mean it to come across that way. |

Oh, don't worry!! I didn't feel attacked at all - I totally understand your point. I know a lot of people go in expecting them to be dead on to the book and come out disappointed when it's not. I just wanted to say that for the record, I'm not one of them Like I said before, GOF was very very different from the book, but I still thought it was one of the best movies in the series
And yeah, maybe I'm a bit harsh when I said it was 'terrible', but I guess I just mean that in the sense that they focused on the wrong points of the story. The scenes from the book that they did include, they did a phenomenal job with
[spoiler:858d8bf57d]Like for example - I was really happy to see that they included Hermione's canary attack!! That was a little thing from the book that I really liked and thought it was cool they included. [/spoiler:858d8bf57d] |

saw this yesterday; was definitely a good watch! not sure what i should spoiler or not so i'll cover all bases...
[spoiler:7f1b2a2d3b]
but i was psyched to see scenes from the book that weren't there like that whole scene at the end of the book where Ginny leaves Harry because he cant find the Horcrux's and worry about her. and Dumbledore's funeral; wanted to see that too. isn't there a ron/hermione comfort hug in there? I also wanted more for the Dumbedore death scene; i dont think it was epic enough for old Albus i did love the holding the wants up; that was great. and the whole scene in the ocean cave was AWESOME! everyone in the cinema i was in jumped a mile when that hand came out! definitely the funniest one so far fave scene that one where ron sits down between harry and ginny; hilarious and Luna; she's too funny and that guy hitting on hermione, lolz. prob my fave Emma instalment; usually she really ticks me off and her acting is quite sub-par compared to the others, but this one she had me giggling and i felt so sorry for her when she saw lavender kiss ron. and I agree with you abby; she totally stole the show with her scenes
wanted more of the harry/ginny kiss too; it was barely more than we got in the trailer and that was ALL we got! did we see Ginny again after that? but like we're saying, they cant fit everything in. Like they've TOTALLY neglected Krum in these last few movies which pretty much sets up the Ron jealously which then plays off the Hermione jealously in this one. Glad they're splitting the last book into 2 movies tho granted it'll take years for us to get to see them, lol
AWESOME malfoy stuff! im so glad they included that scene in the train; like that bird scene abby i thought they might leave it out I did like what they included, i just wanted more of it also wanted more tonks/lupin; doesn't that set up Teddy in the final book? gar; aw well cant have it all! that's what we get for JK. Rowling being so friggin talented! [/spoiler:7f1b2a2d3b]
sidebar; how hot is young Tom Riddle? :D |

I watched the movie on the opening night, and I just loved it! It was really fun, and I think there was enough from the book in there! At least my favorite scenes were there (Which means the Ron/Hermione scenes, and the ones with Draco )
The only thing I missed[spoiler:d92c12cc5b]was the battle in the end, cause I don't understand why the Death Eaters wanted so much to get into Hogwarts, and when they finally did, they just broke a few glasses... they should've tried to fight! Even if it was just a little...
And The Harry/Ginny scenes... well, I didn't like them very much in the book, cause they didin't seem to make a lot of sense to me, and in the movie it was even worse... Harry had never looked at Ginny, and he's suddenly in love in her? And the kiss was kinda lame too...[/spoiler:d92c12cc5b]
Anyway, that's all! I loved the rest of the movie!! |

I finally went and saw it tonight and they just completely missed the point with the entire movie... I realize they can't include every last detail into a 2 1/2 hour movie, but at least the earlier movies stayed true to the feel of the books... this one really not so much...
I truly don't understand the direction they chose to take with this movie... it's called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince yet the HBP arc got reduced to about 4 scenes in the entire movie... and the heart of this book was the horcrux arc that for some reason took a backseat to scene after scene of fluffy teen drama... the Ron/Hermione/Lavender part of it was amusing enough, the Harry/Ginny/Dean not so much (mostly due to an uncomfortable lack of chemistry)... but that should have never been the main focus of the movie... and then add a completely random and illogical scene of Bellatrix burning down the Burrow yet removed the climax of the book, completely removing the big battle at the end, killing Dumbledore in a completely anticlimatic, completely rewritten scene and then cut the funeral completely
I just... don't understand... it felt like 2 hours of teen love triangles and then trying to fit the central story arcs of the book into a handful of scenes... I don't think it was quite as bad as OoTP but it definitely wasn't good either |
