Oh noes! Don't throw the computer out the window just yet! Here's Polarbear's Vegas tutorial which covers trimming clips in the first post. Hope that helps! If not, feel free to post again and let us know what doesn't seem to be working right. (Also worth noting, if you're using Sony Vegas Movie Studio instead of the full version of Sony Vegas, clip-trimming works just a little bit differently. )

Yeah, I'm using Movie Studio. Will the tutorial not help me then?

Glad you figured it out! I'm using Movie Studio, too, by the way! The main difference is that you can't name sub-clips, which I should've mentioned the first time, sorry!

Hey there, bld! What sort of problem are you having trimming clips? Is it that you can't get them to open in the trimmer or is it a problem getting them from the trimmer back onto the timeline?

Polarbear's Vegas Tutorial is a good place to start for the basics, though, of course, it was written for Vegas 6, so things may be a little different in Movie Studio 9. But it might help point you in the right direction.

Welcome to LVI! And no problem resurrecting old threads, we're always glad to help however we can around here!

Yeah, that's one of the differences between the full version and the Movie Studio version of Vegas. Here's how it works in my version 6, it may be different in 9 but hopefully the same basic idea still works!

Spoilering because the screencaps are large.

[spoiler:e5d3bbfdbb]

After your clip/episode has been imported into your Project Media bin, you can right-click it and these options come up. Click open in trimmer.

Use your mouse to highlight the section you want to trim out of the clip (you don't have to be precise because you can edit it further once it's on the timeline ). Right-click the highlighted areas for another set of options. If you want only the video, you can either click Select Video Only or you can simply hit the Tab key (thanks, Bel, for pointing that out! ). If you want only the audio, then click Select Audio Only (or Shift + Tab). Or if you want both the video and the audio, then you don't have to select any of them (unless Select Video and Audio isn't the default in 9 ).

Whatever your choice, you just drag the highlighted area out of the trimmer and up onto the timeline and it's ready to be used! [/spoiler:e5d3bbfdbb]

Hope that helps! If Movie Studio 9 looks drastically different than 6 or doesn't seem to have the same controls, feel free to post some screencaps so we can see what it is that you're seeing!

You're very welcome! Glad to know that the two versions still look basically the same!
