The Details

The finale of Lost has come upon us, with an exciting and intense ending to a great season. To reflect this, we are having a contest to the topic that is the very fundamental of "intense" and "exciting"….... Disney Musicals!

Since Lost is itself a product of the Disney Corporation, and this is Lost Video Island, the home of Lost music videos, it only seems natural to combine the two into one beautiful entity! So for this contest, you will be using only songs from Disney's musicals such as Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, and The Little Mermaid. For a list of major Disney Animated Features, click here.

The challenge is to take the situation in the song and apply it to Lost through lip-synching, storytelling, or just plain originality! But for this reason, there is one rule to this contest: the song may not be an instrumental (song lacking a singer). With any luck, this should help to bring some vidders out of their comfort zones, and bring in some really awesome entries!

Good luck!

The Rules

Contest submissions should be entered through the Submit page and all regular submissions rules apply! The following rules apply only for this contest.

-Running time must not exceed 5:00.

-Videos already submitted and RELEVANT can be submitted again, but we would rather see something fresh.

-The video must focus on Lost

-When entering your video on the Submit page, you MUST enter "June 2006 contest submission" exactly for your vid's Description.

-Please do not use Megaupload, Rapidshare or Yousendit to host your files.

-Have fun! Vidding is supposed to be fun!

-Keep in mind that however you choose to host your video, it must be available for download at least until the end of the month. If we can not access your video at the time of judgment it will not be considered.

a couple of questions:

Does it have to be like and overview of the season? only use clips from 2nd season? can it be a shipper (like skate)? and can it also include season 1?
sorry, just want to make sure I understand the rules !

Only if you want it to be a overview of the season and nope, you can still use season 1 clips. Oh and ship vids are fine.
Can't wait to see the entries.

*raises hand* Would it be permissible to use a cover of a Disney song, or are we only to use the ones off the original soundtracks, etc.?

Well, basically, instead of using, say, "Someday My Prince Will Come" from the original movie soundtrack, using Trisha Yearwood's cover of the same off of "The Best Of Country Sings The Best Of Disney"? It's the same lyrics but a totally different sound, basically.
(This is all hypothetical. I don't even know if I still have access to TBOCSTBOD, but just in case.)

Hobbes -

If I search for songs on Napster, I can find covers of Disney songs in all musical styles. Avril LaVigne sings songs from Bambi; Elvis singing "I Just Can't Wait to be King" (I jest), et cetera. (which is a question I had: If covers are allowed, must the musical style be the same or can I use, say, the blues cover of Aladdin or something?)

Additionally, if it's just Disney songs themselves, where would I find DLs of those that are preferably legal? There's next to nothing on Napster.

ah okay, then covers [EDIT: still deciding rule about covers]

As far as free, legal music downloads for these songs: do those exist...? If so, then I'm sure thsoe methods will work for these songs as well.
If not, then just give us the name of the song you want and we'll get ya the song if we can!

Hehe. We really liked your disney themed vids Heather and thought this would be a funny and unexpected contest to come up with after the finale.

I dunno about covers. I guess it's okay but if it was like a hard rock cover or something it might be a bit strange.
