This seems to happen to me a lot: I hear a song and absolutely fall in love with it for a particular vid idea. But then I run and to see if somebody's already used it...and of course they have.

Normally, I just forget the whole vid idea (though I couldn't seem to let go of "Blow Me Away" and so I asked Vicky if she cared if I used it. Vicky kindly said she didn't mind and I used it for "Saving Sun"). But I'd be really interested to hear how you guys handle this. IF it ever seems to happen to you. Maybe you've got your finger on the pulse of the "cool music" and nab awesome songs before anybody else does!

Anyway, I'd love to hear what y'all think about this! *makes big adorable puppy dog eyes*

I have only knowingly made a vid to a song that has already been done twice - one was Hysteria - by Muse but I haven't seen Laura's vid to it and Laura gave the ok the other was Atom Bomb by Fluke and the original vid I had seen was to La Femme Nikita and mine was to 24.

Only rarely do I hear a song while watching a vid and I think it would work for another show. If someone asked me to do a song I used I would say it was ok so long as the vid had a different theme.

Interesting that you brought this up, Aislynn, I am currently (actually right this moment, just taking a break!) making a vid to a song already used, and for the same ship.

I don't think I've ever knowingly done this before, and I probably won't do it again, or least not very often. I've been a little stuck on all my vids lately, so when my mom thought up this particular song for my Skate vid, nothing else I could come up with seemed as good.

Now as for using the same song but a different ship or character, I say go for it because it will definitely be totally different. As long as there are not like 20 videos using the same song.

What is the big deal!!!!!????? Just because there already exists a video with that song doesn't mean that nobody else can't use it! This is stupid if you ask me! It's not like the vidder wrote the song!

I would use it anyway because maybe I ship another couple or I think I can do a better job or I just like the song and feel inspired to making a video using it!

I generally just forget the idea. I have a lot of ideas that pop in my head some good some bad so I know another one will come along soon enough. I try and be original as possible so it irks me to do a song that someone's already done. I don't sneer at other people when they do it though

in a way i agree with Anya... I mean I didn't write those songs.... I don't own them... but I really appreciated the fact that Aislynn and Nate asked if they could use them ... but that's just me, other people might not give a crap so... yeh.
