MAY 2007
Contest: Eighties Mood Swings
Deadline: May 31
The Details
The 1980's saw the end of the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and a leap forward in terms of information technology. The music of the time was characterised by bad hairdos, heavy beats and a general 'feel good' vibe in many of the hit songs. But not everything about the 1980's was all fun and games. It saw the AIDS pandemic sweep across western culture, the election of Saddam Hussein to power and an emphasis on the importance of making money and capitalist ideals. As we know on a remote island in the Pacific it also saw the birth of the soon to be doomed Dharma Initiative, the brainchild of Gerald and Karen Degroot.
We ask you to take a song from this period (1980-1989) and switch the mood of the song around from sad/dramatic to fun/light hearted and vice-versa. Feel free to take a cheesy song and just poke fun at it with hilarious clips that make it sound silly or if you want take a more stylistic approach of interpreting the lyrics differently it's up to you!
The Rules
Specific Contest Rules:
* -Must be a song that was released between 1980 and 1989.
* -The more creative, the better. Don't be afraid to take risks.
* -Running time should be no longer than 5 minutes. We suggest the 3 - 5 minute range.
* -When entering your video on the Submit page, you MUST enter "May 2007 contest submission" exactly for your vid's Description.
General Contest Rules:

* -Have fun! _________________

If you need a song for it I'd be happy to get it for you. If you actually have no clue what music to use I'm sure you do.. not heard of Madonna?
Some of my favourite eighties bands are Roxette, Duran Duran, Kate Bush, The Bangles etc. but I love those on hit wonder catchy tunes aswell. _________________

:/ Just make the song feel different? Like if its a cheesy fun song try and put some emotion and drama in there or make a sad soulful song silly. _________________

Squee, you're finally doing an 80s contest! Dunno if I'll be able to enter this, but I can't wait to see all the vids.
Becca...you should learn 80s music, it's just like 90s music except not every single song has a rap verse. _________________
