Has anyone run into this?

It's a clip that I pulled out of an episode via the trimmer. I've never had problems with any other episode before, but this episode does not want me to reverse any clips from it. LOL!

The clips just go black, not only on the timeline, but in the playback/render as well. Any thoughts?

I'm going to see if I can get another copy, but I thought I'd ask if anyone knows a solution first.

I don't have this problem when I reverse clips, because I rarely do that. But lately I've been having this problem with my 24 episodes that I burned onto my computer. It's not the whole episode, just small parts here or there. In the trimmer it'll show up red, like it's offline, and when I put a clip near it on my timeline, it'll be nothing but a black screen.

I've had that problem, too! In fact, I end up having to re-D/L a lot of episodes because of it, and I've had clips that are fine and then out of the blue that happens. Usually I noticed it after I've rendered a clip and then I see a black blip in the middle of the scene. Then when I zoom in on the timeline, sure enough there's the redded out bit. It's almost like the episode/scene/clip becomes corrupted or something.

I can't ever reverse my .AVI clips without them going black on me. So I render the clip that I want to reverse into .WMV at really good quality, import it in and reverse it and that works like a charm. Every bit of reversed action you've ever seen in any vid of mine has been done that way and it's worked really well for me.

The sad fact is that Vegas and .AVI just aren't very compatible with each other. .AVI is a container that can have a veritable cocktail of audio and video codecs inside it and there are only certain combinations that work well in Vegas, sad to say, and you pretty much never know which codec cocktail is inside that particular .AVI.

Anyway, that's been the best workaround that I've found for the "goes black when .AVI is reversed" issue.

(((HUGS AIS!!!)))

Thank you! That solution is fine with me. It didn't even occur to me to try that. I didn't know Vegas is buggy with the .avi format, but that would certainly explain a lot of the weirdness I experience. Unfortunatley almost all of my eps/clips are .avis. LOL! At least I know how to work around the problems now, though, so thank you!!!

@ tjmack1986, that might explain the redded out bits, too, so hopefully that solution will solve that problem as well.

I don't think that's my problem, because I converted my ep's, and though they are still "technically" in AVI format, they work now, where before they didn't work at all. The audio or video at all wouldn't work, which didn't surprise me, since I know that Vegas is buggy with AVI format. I also downloaded a codec pack that a friend recommended would work on the AVI files so they would work right in vegas. I think that my vegas just hates me really bad.

right click on the clip> switches> disable resample before you start editing.

^^ That works nearly every time for me
