I have a couple of questions about what counts as an effect.

Can I zoom into a clip using the pan and crop option on Sony vegas?

I wouldn't be using the zoom in to actually make the video appear to be moving in on the scene.
I am going to be using some scenes where I want to be able to use close ups of the characters faces.I'm using it more to clean up the image and give it a stonger focus rather than as an effect.

I was also wondering if I can slow clips down. I won't be slowing them down for effect but rather to make them fit into the space I need them to fill.I also will not slow down a clip to the extent that it becomes visible that it was slowed down.I understand that slowing it down and making it visible it was slowed down would therefore make it an effect.

I'm lookimg forward to entering the contest.I'm still learning my way around Sony Vegas so alot of the videos I make are fairly basic and I usually focus on storyline more than I focus on effects.
I've enjoyed all the contests though because they've taught me how to use some new effects.

Oh I just realised my question about being able to use non lost footage wasn't answered. On a side note I have already used some deleted scenes from Lost in my video hope that's okay.

We did discuss it and we agree it's fine to use non-Lost. But deleted scenes would count as Lost footage anyway

Macaila, to answer your question about slowing down a clip, the best way we can think to answer is to just repeat what we said earlier, Keep in mind what we're asking for for this contest: no to very minimal effects.

So if a clip is slowed down (or sped up, of course

) enough that we can see it, then that would count as an effect. If we can't see it because it's so slight it's imperceptible, well, then, obviously we won't know it's there.

We're not trying to be picky over which effects count as effects and all that, we're just trying to keep the focus on doing a vid with no to minimal effects for this particular contest.

As long as you keep your intent on making a vid without effects, it should be fine.

Manips done in photoshop with screencaps and such count as effects too right cause I haven't done any figured as much just to make sure. Sorry for my 8 billionth question lol

There seems to be a fine line between making use of the beat use and having minimal effects..I have tried to limit my uses of whitefades but it's a beat heavy song so they're in there. Also I have used pan/crop not to animate but to change the clip so it cuts quickly into someones face if that makes sense hope that's okay.
