|
|
Let's face it, we've all come across internet lingo we all understand in forums, chatrooms and such... and it makes you feel stupid, doesn't it? So here's where to come if you want to post a piece of internet language that you just don't understand, or can't figure out what it means.
Here's a couple to get you started;
1. FTW (i.e.)
2. PWNS (i.e.)
AP x
PS: Sorry if anyone is offended I quoted them... they probably know who they are _________________

FTW - For the Win!
pwn is pretty much the same as "own" which is about as good at explaining it as I can get
I'm not offended by the quote, although it did make me blush a little _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

TBH (heehee, that's To Be Honest) I thought it meant For The World!
Quote: | pwn is pretty much the same as "own" which is about as good at explaining it as I can get |
Originally I thought it was 'pawns' with the 'a' missed out, which didn't make any sense to me

Heehee! Well I thought about quoting some others but I couldn't think of any! _________________

Okay, I've got one... On LJ I've seen things like this: ^_^
Usually they're in a place where you might use a smiley or a wink. Can anybody enlighten me? _________________

I think that actually does stand for a smiley face. Or least, that's what my friend told me. _________________

those ones confuse the hell out of me and it took me like two years to figure out that O.o is a surprised face but of course, now I'm addicted to using it. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

I'm glad I read this before I asked about it myself! Sad thing, I know you've told me before what that stands for and for the life of me I couldn't remember! D'oh! I was guessing things like "Faster Than What" and "Fear The Winter," none of which made ANY sense, of course!
And I believe that PWN came from a typo originally. It was supposed to say OWN and was mistyped and then people began typing it that was as emphasis to show you have truly owned something.
And I first saw the surprised face as o_O which is why I tend to type it that way myself, even though now I know that O.o is far more the "standard." I think of the _ as the mouth of a I suppose. And I occasionally throw in a O_O when I'm meaning that I'm just fully stunned.
I've been reading more fanfic lately and couldn't figure out what PWP stood for. I finally googled it and it came up with "Plot? What Plot?" Wow, I've been writing PWP for YEARS now!
This is a great idea for a thread because there are a gazillion abbreviations and smiley code thingies out there and sometimes you just absolutely can't tell what they could stand for! |

I thought that "FTW" was "WTF" backwards.
Leylin and I have taken to calling it that, instead of "For the Win" it's "F*** the What?"
I like it. LOL. |

I thought PWP stood for "porn without purpose". The sense is the same though... What plot? _________________

I've heard it "Plot, What Plot?" as well as "porn without purpose" and I started a thread with a glossary of Internet/fanfiction/comicbook/everythingelseyoucaneverthinkof terms, and PWP is defined as both of those on that webpage. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

I should mention that when I said I've been writing PWP for years now, I was talking about the "Plot? What Plot?" kind...
Normally I wouldn't have to explain that but I think my sweet and innocent rep has been tarnished by my last vid... *shifty eyes*

Me and my friends have our own abbreviations or accronyms, whatever you call them. And I thought FTW was just WTF backwards. _________________ -Jane |
