Hey! My name's Kat!
Long time video watcher, first time vidder
I'm sure this has been asked a MILLION times before but I read through a few of the stickies, and I did a search but wasn't able to come up with anything. If there is an existing thread regarding this, or if it has been answered somewhere, you don't have to re-post it here. You can just post the link.
ANYWHO!
I've finally finished my vid. But now..the uploading part is my next task as a newbie I thought that it would be as simple as saving my video, and uploading it somewhere. But of course, it's not that simple I'm using SONY Vegas, so after I made the video I just saved it and thought that would be good. What do I have to do now? I'm going to upload to EZshare, and rapidshare, and probably youtube... but I don't know what I have to do to th video to prep it for uploading.
If anyone could help, that would be fabulous
And I apologize again if this has been brought up (which I know it has) |

Hey there, Kat! There's a lot of info about how to submit a vid to LVI here, particularly links to The Beginner's Page and Hobbes's Hosting Guide. That one in particular is an important one if you want to make sure that your vid is eligible to be voted on for a Council Pick and there are several hosting places that we won't accept (however they work great as a secondary link, just make sure to use one of our "approved" ones, YouTube is a great one!).
Also, for prepping the vid itself before you upload it, make sure that you've rendered it in addition to saving it. In other words, make sure that it's in the .WMV format, not just .VEG or .VF, which is the Vegas project file names. If you need help with rendering, feel free to ask!
Congrats on your first vid! Hopefully we'll get to see it soon!

hahaha, yea, I just read Hobbe's thing and I was like "oh crap..I just asked a question about this." But that page helped me figure out which hosting website is best to use..
NOW..the rendering process is what I'm totally confused on..
I have NO idea how to do that Is there a tutorial somewhere? Or is the process rather simple??
EDIT: Oh and the beginner guide was very helpful! I've read it like 8 times and watched all the vids just so I know I dont' screw up |

We've got two great guides here at LVI, Polarbear's Vegas Guide and Steph's Vegas Guide that cover a lot of different Vegas topics. However, I'm not sure if they cover rendering.
Rendering is the same thing that's called "Save Movie As" in Windows Movie Maker. Basically, you click File -- Render As and use the pull-down menu under where you type in the file name to make sure that it's going to render into .WMV. Most of the time it will give you pretty good quality for not too big of a size but if it doesn't come out well, there are more settings you can change further into the Render As window. Hopefully that all makes sense! |

Okay, I just went into VEGAS and I went to file but didn't see "Render As". So I just did "Save As" like you said it was in WMM, but when I went to the drop down menu, it only had "VF" as an extension. There wasn't a .WMV option
Could it be located somewhere else do you think?
Sorry about this I just want to get alll this stuff figured out so I don't have to worry about it anymore
Under TOOLS, there was a "Pre-Render" Option. Could that be it?? |

I'm using Vegas Movie Studio but as far as I know, they look the same in this respect.
There's where Render As should be.
I'm not sure what the "pre-render" does, to tell the truth. And no worries about asking questions, by the way! That's how we ALL get started with anything, but especially with Vegas! |

That's so weird! In mine, it like SKIPS that option
This is what I see..
I"m two versions behind you also
So is "import media" the same as "render as"? |

Wow, that's just freaky that there's no "render as!" Vegas 4.0 must have it hidden under some other name or calls it something else! In that case, I'd see what "Make Movie" does. Vegas Movie Studio has that option as well but I've never used it so don't really know what it does. But it's worth a try, I'd say!
ETA: I just poked into the Help section of Movie Studio and asked about the Make Movie option and it says:
Quote: | When you use the Save it to your hard drive option on the Make Movie Wizard, Vegas Movie Studio software will convert your project to the format you choose and create a single file on your hard drive. This process is called rendering.
The project file is not affected (overwritten, deleted, or altered) during the rendering process. You may return to the original project to make edits or adjustments and render it again. |
So that ought to work! I think "Render As" just skips the wizard part of it. But maybe in the earlier versions of Vegas, the only option was to use the wizard. Also, you can check in your Help section and see if it gives you any idea of how to render a project... *fingers crossed that something will work*
I also tried Googling directions on how to render with Vegas 4.0 but haven't had any luck yet, sorry.
