hey guys! im a newbie at movie making and stuff. I'm using XP and im using windows movie maker to do the movies. I recently spent 3 days straight (i'd say from 12am to 3am each day, thats what 15 hours a day?), i was truely dedicated to getting my first video completed. I finished everything its all ready. When i managed to fill in the last 3 seconds of the song i was so relieved. I went to the obvious File>Save movie file>my computer>typed in the name and stuff>chose the best quality for playback and whatnot> waited for like 10 mins. You know what came up?!... something stupid about the chuffin "not enough Virtual memory"! I almost cried. Ive tried saving with different settings and i still got the same message up. I even tried to save on DVDrw and cdrw and still my movie doesnt save. I'm so fed up and angry cause ive stuck out all the crashes and long long long waits and resetting my laptop loads of times. Ive even tried putting everything on my mums PC and trying to save but its the same virtual memory. btw my movie is 3 minutes 48seconds long and it wsays summit about available disc space on drive C is 26.99MB. i dont get the technicals.

If someone could please please please give me guidance on what to do so this blinking movie will save!! I wouldnt be so irrate if i could watch it the whole way through on WMM without it stalling or the whole thing going out of sync cause of the stupid program.

I am in desperate need of support. Hell im found myself sounding like locke at the end of deus ex machina with the whole banging my hands on the laptop and screaming "ive done everything you wanted me to do so why did you do this to me?!"....okay over-exaggerated that but it was similar lol.

pleeeeeeeeease someone help me..its my first video and its really good and i spent so long and i just wanna watch it all the way through!! *cries*, oh n one last request if u know how to like sort it out can u explain like step-by-step in simple terms cause im a bit thick and i dont know much about pc's 'cept u press a button (oooh walt) and it turns on. lmao. thank you in advance xXstephXx

Hey there, Steph! Sorry to hear about your low virtual memory problem! I actually had something very similiar happen to me when I first started vidding but unfortunately the answer isn't very easy, I'm afraid.

First thing I would do would be go down to click Start, then right-click My Computer, then click Properties. A little window thing will pop up and down towards the bottom it'll say something like 512 MB of RAM. 512 MB is sort of the middle of the road now. My old computer had 256 MB of RAM and it tried to die every time I did anything with it. The only way I was able to solve the problem was to raise the RAM up to 1 GB.

What would be nice if that was just a button you had to push to make it 1 GB. Unfortunately, it's a little harder than that. I went to the computer manufacturer's home page, looked up my model, and found what sort of RAM chips it required (note all the numbers and such that it'll tell you there).

A friend of mine recommended crucial.com (which can also walk you through the steps of finding what sort of RAM chips you'll need). When they came in the mail, I followed the instructions, opened the CPU case and changed the old RAM chips for the new ones, closed it up, turned it on and yay! Everything worked!

Now, the fact that yours is a laptop might make a difference and you might be better off sending it in to a reputable computer place to have them do the upgrade for you. Short of that, I'm really not sure what you can do with that poor ol' virtual memory warning. Not having enough RAM (which stands for Random Access Memory and is one of the most vital parts of the computer when it comes to making vids) will stop you pretty much dead in the water when you go to render (save as a movie) as you've unfortunately found out.

Hope you'll find a way to get your vid rendered so we can see it! Best of luck!

I had a very similar problem with WMM a while back.

The way I solved it was, when I reached "Save Best Quality for Playback' I clicked onto 'Fit to File Size', and lowered the file size by a few MB, and it would save. HOWEVER..my computer had a LOT more memory than you have at the time. So, it may actually be that you don't have enough. I'm not sure.

What I would also recommend is closing all other programmes while you render.

Also extremely good suggestions!

thank you all for your help.

Unfortunately i wont be able to upgrade for a while because im a college student and living off ema (£30 a week) with which i use as my travel money, books, rent, food ect and its bearly enough.

I also tried your advice Spiral Static but WMM started to like crash and not save and the message where its encountered a problem is comming up often. I bet if it was someone elses pc that advice would do trhe trick but technology hates me lmao. thank you anyways.

My friend said if i could send him through msn everything i have done then he'll try to save it for me and then send the finshed video back.

Thank you all very much. If my friend can save it i will see about getting it on here or something. Thanks again!
