I think that's what it was referred to in the guides on vidding, anyway.

My question is...I was in need of a LOT of clips and I found about half of them, but the clips I found were all full screen and the majority of the clips I have used already in my vid were wide screen. Is there any way to alter the clips to make them wide screen or do I have to suffer with a mediocre final result because those full screen clips are the only ones I could find for what I needed? I never really understood what difference it made until I saved what I DO have of my vid and watched it...it's really rather irritating when you use two different types of clips

You're using WMM, right? Unfortunately there's not a whole terrible much that can be done about it. I tried to find some solutions (hope you don't mind if I just give you the link rather than repeat it all... ):

http://lostvideo.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=77946#77946

Often the easiest thing is to just try and not fade a widescreen clip and a full-frame clip directly together. One thing I tried in a contest vid I did is by using the ease in effect to start "pulling in" on a widescreen clip so that by the time I was ready to change to a full frame one, there aspects were fairly close together. It doesn't work trying to ease out of a full-frame clip into a widescreen one, though. So I just did a fade to black to try and cover it as best I could.

Mainly, I think you just have to do the best you can with it. If it's any consolation, when we judge vids for Council Picks, we try not to hold things like aspect ratio changes and clip quality against the vid. Believe me, I know what it's like to be scrambling for clips and just having to take whatever kinds and quality you can find!

...pull in...? how does one do that? ...bear in mind that I only have WMM1. I'm BEYOND frustrated with all this, because this is precisely why I didn't want to vid again without having full episodes: I'm hideously anal. I can't fade to black between wide and full screen in some of the parts of the vid because of the beats that I'm working with. GAH, i hate this. Thanks for your help, Ais; you're always fantastic at answering my questions, even if it does happen to be the exact opposite of what I'm hoping to hear lol

D'oh! *smacks forehead* Sorry, forgot that all-important detail. Unfortunately then I think you're just going to have to be stuck with the two ratios then. My first vid "Vertigo" has a full frame clip stuck in with the widescreen ones because I had no way to change it, either.

Grrrr... I'm sorry not to have an answer for you, then! I can resize your clips for you -- or replace them if I happen to be using the same widescreen ratio; mine are 428x240, which my old WMM 1 used to "see" as widescreen. I'm just getting my Lost footage put back on my CPU since I had to replace the first one, so I should be able to match the clips you need. Anyway, just let me know how I can help. Believe me, I know how frustrating it is to work with WMM 1.

I'm using 320x240. Would your clips be an improvement from full screen though? I can't really picture it...forgive me, I've had a REALLY rough week, so my brain hasn't really been functioning properly since Thursday

There's quite a few clips, so it might be one hell of a task for you, just to let you know, and there's quite a few clips I still don't have that I want, too. I'm almost tempted to try downloading full episodes and making my own clips out of them just to delete the episode again, but the way my luck has been running this week, I think I'd be wasting my time, because my computer would probably just continue to boycott. As it is, I can't WATCH the clips I've downloaded; I can import them and use them, but I can't just watch them. So weird.

Not a problem, I understand how that is! Do your widescreen clips have the black bars at the top and bottom? You know, what might be easiest is if you gave me a sample of the ratios you're dealing with. If you'd like me to have a look at them, you could render up a "test pilot" of sorts, something with clips from both ratios in it. It doesn't have to be terribly long (though long enough I can see what you're dealing with... maybe about 5 seconds of each ratio?).

Then just YouSendIt (or whichever downloadable hosting place works for you) to me through a PM or through here and that'll let me compare it to what I have. It'll also let me see if there's any "magic" I can do to them to put them together.

I had a lot of people help me when I was working with WMM 1 and was on dial-up so that downloading anything over about 20 MB was impossible, so if there's any way I can be of help to a fellow vidder in a somewhat similar jam, I'm glad to help!

Have you gotten the virus(es)/spyware/whatever nasty stuff did this to you off your computer, BTW? When I got hit with several thousand of those buggers myself early in my (naive, firewall-free ) Internet days, it took me several months to find the right spyware/virus-killing programs that could clear everything out. If you need the websites of some free spyware killing programs that really helped me, I'll be glad to send 'em to you. If you can get your poor computer back healthy again, then a lot of your vidding troubles will be eased just by virtue of the PC not trying to die all the time.

I should've used my [voice of experience][/voice of experience] tags there, I suppose...

Anyway, just let me know!

The only one I know how to use is YouTube (thanks, little brother of mine! lol), so you'll have to be patient with me if I can't seem to get it right the first time lol. I'll try rapidshare.

As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I did. The thing is...it was ONLY affecting Lost files. Episodes, clips, anything having "lost" in the title that is a media form, was f---ed. Everything else worked just fine. All my music, pictures, data...even things that were in the same folder as other Lost stuff. I seriously think my computer has just decided it hates Lost lol.

I would LOVE it, though, if you could hook me up with some linkage...I'm pretty sure I only have a spyware killer. I lost my Norton Anti-Virus when I had to do a routine (yes, isn't that sad?) reformatting of my hard drive about six months ago, and I had borrowed the CD from my parents in Connecticut, so, I haven't had an anti-virus program since then. I wish I was brave enough to try a firewall, but I'm afraid it would screw up my wireless internet connection again (that was another "routine" reformat...gotta love Dell computers, eh?)

So. Basically, if you could just make a trip out to Indianapolis and take me to the DMV to get my driver's license changed over from CT and then take me to find a decent used car for under four grand to replace the one I effing wrecked, you'd pretty much have tackled all things shitty that have been plaguing me for a week. Up for a roadtrip?

That's just seriously weird... No idea what the problem is with that one, I'm afraid.

Harsh dude, harsh

The thing is, the firewall probably will make your wireless signal more erratic but it's probably worth it. If nothing else, you should at least get "Avast!" Antivirus and some sort of anti-spyware program like Ad-Aware.

Me neither Could it be that they were downloaded from the same site area? Or are they mpeg? Or ANYTHING?

...it actually just makes my wireless completely effing useless. McAfee did, anyway. I'm terrified to try again, since I don't have any of my drivers or program disks (I accidentally left THAT box at my friend's house when I moved out into my own place...she still hasn't found it )

My friend Brian and I tried EVERYTHING to think of some sort of connection. The files were all .avi, but they were downloaded as torrents from different sites. The only connection that we could come up with for the issue was that it only seemed to affect Lost episodes and clips that I'd downloaded. I told Aislynn in a PM just now...it didn't affect my music, my erm...naughty files (.rm, .mov, .avi, and .mpeg---yeah I know that's a LOT of naugty files. I get bored, all right? ), nor any of my completed vids (.wmv) on the hard drive...all of my data files, programs, and all that are fine, too. I'm pretty sure my computer is just boycotting Lost, since I've coerced a good number of friends to sit through ALL of season one on DVD and then all of season 2 on my computer lol.

...just to let you guys know...I've NEVER been in a forum in which the people were SO helpful and understanding. I really do appreciate it. Ais, like, sent me a huge LIST of anti-virus, -spyware/adware, and firewall programs I could download for free, as well as giving me a list of options of ways that she could help me with my aspect ratio issue. You've both been really fantastic at PROMPTLY getting to my questions and answering them to the best of your ability---I've never, ever encountered that in a help forum in my LIFE.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?

Interesting
Errr.....how do they span across your hard drive folder-wise? Are most of the corrupted files in the same folder? If so, then it's possible there could have been some bit of data overwritten as you were transfering files across your hard drive from the formatting.that has since caused this to happen I dunno though, this is a weird situation

Only one way to find out you could try putting Season 1 on your computer via your DVD with Morelight's guide and if it works, you'll have all the eps you could want

yeah... well it's worth a try, and if it messes up your wireless you can always just uninstal it and leave yourself with Avast to protect you. It won't really provide much safety, but it's way better than nothing
