You know, Im all about protecting eyes that shouldnt see NC-17 fanfics (like kids, etc.), but Lost Forum is quickly becoming totally fascist. When I used to frequent there all the time (before I partied with you guys), it was awesome. You had the R rated fix and art right in with everyone elses. So then I go back- a little more organized, into "Shipper" Het & Slash sub-forums. Okay thats cool.

Then I go back like a month ago, and they have moved any "questionable" material into a password protected area. Alright, I get it...AND that there is a 60 day waiting limit on getting into that one. Okay thats fine, I know that its better than nothing. Well this is nothing- Im not talking about just sexual ones here, I mean anything with murder, general mayhem, swearing.

Better than nothing- NOW IT IS NOTHING. They have kicked off those "questionable" stories and art altogether! And the little thead of them announcing it and ONE person complaining has been "locked". So I cant even comment further.

I understand that its family friendly, but my god, you have a rigid password thing set up. If someone was complaining, so be it...you cant make everyone happy. Okay sorry- and no Im not some pervert, sometimes the "graphic" (not just sexual) are just funny.

Whoa, they've really done some restructuring over there! I can't even find the little announcement thread of the removal of all the R-rated stuff!

I haven't been visiting LF nearly as much in the past few weeks, mainly because the threads I used to hang out in have gotten verrrrrry strict about staying on topic. In and of itself, that's not a bad thing, I guess. But we're not talking about things going way off the topic; they'll jump you at the first "non-topic" thing you say. I've read in various places where they'll get after you for saying something like, "man, I've had a bad day" or the like because it's not "topic." And the "they" I mean are other members, NOT mods!

It makes me feel like I need a rule book sitting close by so I can refer to it as I'm oh-so-carefully typing up my post!

I'm not knocking LF; it's just hard to relax and have a good time there since they've got the rules up so high now. I feel like I'm gonna open my mouth just to get somebody's foot stuck in it... It's a shame that I don't feel very comfortable there any more because I've met some really cool and lovely people there. I just have begun to feel like I'm not allowed to talk to them! You know how I tend to post in a weird stream-of-consciousness style! I just tend to "think out loud" when I'm just hanging out like this. *see above post for proof*

Now I feel like I have to weigh EVERY word very carefully, or I'm going to get yelled at!

This is not even to mention how they've reorganized their vids section.

End of Aislynn's rant. Well, it was more of a sad story than a rant. I don't know. You make the call.

Ais I havent gone there in MANY moons. I got yelled at on more than one occasion for what I feel was totally unfair stuff. Yeah theyve gotten a little too big for themselves. I love LVI so much better for everything LOST related now. One time I posted a theory on LF that - god forbid- had been discussed before. You thought I had said that God is dead or something equally disturbing. People were SO rude!

LOL. I've not visited LF lately but it sounds like it may be one of those cases where some of the mods are kids who get no respect in real life, and try to make up for it by abusing their little mod powers. Topics full of OFF TOPIC!!! and OLD!!! are not good reading. I'm not sure why people feel the need to post those things.

...and as far as banning fanfic, having warnings is one thing, but complete censorship is another. I fucking hate censorship.

I tried to give their newly organized vid section a better looking over and I can see what they're trying to do by grouping like vids together. The problem is that you have to sort through sub-section after sub-section to see if there's even any new vids in them. It's going to be really hard for a newly posted vid to be seen by anybody but the most dedicated of sub-section sorter-throughers.

Uh, not that I'm advocating posting vids anywhere but LVI, of course! No, never! Really!

Wow! I never really got into LF that much...I guess that's good. And Ruth, a lot of those fanfics are pretty much the same thing you can go out and buy at the bookstore. They don't ask for ID when you buy a romance novel, which from what I've heard most contain some pretty graphic sex scenes. So, this censorship is retarded. As long as a warning is posted, I see no reason to put things under lock and key. There are worse things on TV these days than some smutty or violent fanfic.

I guess they are maybe concerned that someone will complain and they will get in trouble. But this is the internet...the super porn highway...kids can see some pretty trashy stuff online. I don't let my son surf the net alone, so if there are little kids out there looking for stuff without parental supervison...there's really nothing anyone can do to stop it. They'll find it anyway.

Well, I like it here better...nicer people, friendlier atmosphere, and things seem more organized here. The LVI team has this site running very smoothly.

I go to LF and post in the Firefly/Serenity threads in other movies/shows. I also post my icons there and used to post my vids there. I also used to participate in the skate/jate forums. The Skaters are supposed to be my arch enemy, but the Jaters there? I don't know how to describe them. Collective brain damage? So I would be like, "Skaters, you're the cool kids, can I hang with you?" But not so much with that anymore. It's been a while.

But you know, recently (for the first time ever) I complimented one of the mods for how she handled everything during the great LF-Heist of 2006. Mostly though, I agree that the mods over there are more than a little obsessive.

I wonder why LF has gotten this desperate as to get this strict I mean, Lost-TV has always been the JERK paradise, but I thought LF was at least okay. Are you guys sure Lost-TV wasn't closed down and the members moved there?

lol. i think it's sad when sites that are suposed to be for fun get bogged down with too many rules. Another site that seems to be a lot less fun due to beaurocracy is ocremix.org.

I guess the good thing is that when the bloat hits critical mass, everyone jumps ship and moves on to sites that are less anal.

Totally with ya E. Also I see now that EVERY post on the site needs to be approved by a moderator. Even if you have lets say 10 mods working round the clock (which is obviously unlikely), they have 33,000 members! And not all posts in English either! I cant believe someone wanted to have all posts monitored.

I like our forums. Lets never be anal. Personally I think its a power trip over there.
