It's strange that WMM isn't working.... have you tried going to this site: www.windowsupdate.com and using that updater instead of the automatic one? Sometimes the automatic screws up on things.

And yeah, I also recommend Vegas, but it costs about $300

Last time I checked, it was closer to $700! Eek!

I wish they'd discount Vegas 5 or whatever, just so that people would have a chance at getting it all square, fair and legal. Ahhhh, but they never will, huh?

I went and checked it on Amazon just to see and it's now $399. Wow, what a discount!!!!

When I looked some time last year, when I started hearing about everybody using Vegas 6, it was $700, no lie. I nearly fell out of my chair.

And yo, James? Are you sure that you have the Service Pack 2 already installed? (Click Start - right-click My Computer - click properties and on the General tab right under the system info (Microsoft Windows XP) then it will tell what number the Service Pack is.) If you don't have the Service Pack 2, you're stuck with WMM 1 until you change from the Service Pack 1 to the SP2.

Um, if I may throw in my two cents here. I recommend Cyberlink's PowerDirector. Ive done ALL my videos on it.

While it may not have all the cool effects that Vegas does, it DOES have a good amount of special effects, transitions and Pic-in-pic function. You can do some pretty spectacular stuff if you have the patience. Its extremely user friendly and is the best one (Ive found) costing under $100.

http://www.gocyberlink.com

It has its problems like any other editor- I have Vegas *cough pirated* but I dont really know how to use it and only use it to have footage go in reverse, something which I emailed Cyberlink about adding to PowerDirector. Polarbear told me that a new version is coming out.

Is there ANYTHING better than WMM (I am beginning to hate it) that is free, and not just for a limited count of days?
I would really hate it to have to buy studio9 or something. I hope I can borrow it from school so I can download it on my pc, cuz studio9 aint bad either.
But were there any free vidding programs? *(whispers) Maybe I can illigally download it?*
