Lost Video Island

So if my life wasn't stressful enough, I dropped my external hard drive and now it won't connect to my computer. This happened once before, it still connected and wanted reformatting and I managed to get all the info off of it and dump the external.

To be clear, I could not care less about the external itself, it's the data I want. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it? I feel like if I could get it to connect to my computer I might be able to get in there, but it won't even connect. I've tried other cords and tried it on another computer, still nada. It doesn't light up, but it whirs like its trying to do something.

Any ideas? or should I just wash my hands of it and start all over again?
