|
One of my Livejournal friends warned about this today so I wanted to pass it along, since I think most of us still have Youtube accounts.
Quote: | If you received an email like this claiming to be from YouTube...
DO NOT click on the link it contains. Go directly to YouTube and check your inbox there (and don't click on the link that says Inbox in that email, either; go to Youtube directly yourself and get to your Inbox that way). If it IS a genuine message then there will be a copy in your inbox at YouTube too, and you can deal with it from there.
There are however many of these emails going out that are in fact totally bogus, as the one above is, no matter how real it might look. The only reason I was immediately aware that this was a bogus mail is because although I have an account there, I have never uploaded any videos myself, meaning no-one could be contacting my about one of "my" videos.
I know several of my friends have indeed loaded up videos there though, and as a result might fall prey to this scam, which I suspect takes you to a phishing site, or a site where some kind of malware or virus could be downloaded to your PC. |
Grr, I hate hackers and other scammers! Anyway, be sure if you get an email like this to go to your Youtube inbox directly and see if the message is there, DON'T click on any link that you get sent to you in an email because it almost certainly will do something bad to your computer. |

Thanks for the heads up, Ais.
I don't understand the want or need to hack or hurt someone else's computer. My uncle who works on computers tells me that most of them do it just for attention. To do the next biggest thing.
I hate Spammers masquerading as legit emails. I get a lot of spam with 'Re: No Subject" With a lot of people I NEVER sent mail to. Or 'HOw may we contact you' type of emails. |

I just deleted one from my personal e-mail that said someone named Thomas has sent me a message. It claimed to be from Youtube services.
It did look pretty realistic. But I knew it was a scam since I don't know someone who goes by Thomas and they sent it to the wrong e-mail from where Youtube sends their messages about my videos matching third party content, etc.
Besides usually when a friend shares a video with me, it comes under their username, not their real name.
It's a shame people have nothing better to do then come up with these scams and try to damage people's computers.

Nice catch. And I agree. They really have nothing better to do. If I didn't despise them so much I'd probably feel sorry for them. |

Looks like another batch of these e-mails are going around. Just deleted one from my e-mail again.
It looked the same as the last one.
