I think I asked a question like this a while back, that things have changed since then so I'm gonna have to ask again

Basically I just want to know which Sony Vegas the majority of people use, and which is best? Just the name is all I need, cause I really want to move on from WMM some time soon lol.

I use Sony Vegas Pro 8 and I LOVE it.

There are slight upgrades between 9 and 8, but I think they're pretty similar. I tried 9 but it bogged down my computer and ran really slow. I really don't know why.

I would recommend downloading trials of different versions of vegas before you buy one. That way you can know which one is your favorite before committing to it.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.( I guess now you'd have to get version 9.)

I've been very pleased with it.It runs pretty quickly for a vidding program. One of the advantages I found was that it was relatively inexpensive when it comes to vidding programs. The main disadvantage is that you only have 4 audio tracks and 4 video tracks and you miss a few effects and transitions from the other versions.Overall it's a great program, far less frustrating than Windows Movie Maker was.

I wasn't very happy with Vegas Pro 9.It ran really slowly on my computer.I couldn't preview the video in the program because it would get lost and have to pause while it tried to figure out what frame it was on.It did have some great effects and transitions and the advantage of multiple video and audio tracks.

I agree that you should download each version and give it a try before you buy any of them. That's the best way to find out which version you will be happiest with.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6 and despite being old now and the "baby" version of Vegas Pro, it's still been a great, reliable program that's light-years ahead of WMM.

I agree with Lauren and Macaila in trying out the trials to see which one you like best. But I think the main deciding factor for most people will simply be the price: the full version of Vegas is a lot more expensive, which is why I went with Movie Studio. If I could've swung Vegas Pro, I would have just for the couple of extra bells and whistles it has. But I think you'll find Movie Studio to be pretty darn awesome in comparison to WMM, lol!

Good luck in getting a new editing program, whatever you end up with, I think you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it!

From reading these replies, in theory, if I downgrade from Vegas Pro 9 to Vegas Pro 8, it won't be such a poo? 'cos that'd be great. especially if it didn't take 6 bloody hours to render a vid.

Thanks very much for all the replies

I think my best option will be downloading on the trial versions and comparing. Because unfortunately, money is an issue at the moment lol, so I'm going to have to get the best I can for the lowest amount possible.

Only problem is I downloaded Sony Vegas 9 trial version a few months back on my old computer and really did not take advantage of that and pretty much wasted the whole month's trial because I became really busy. Is there any way of downloading the older trials (Sony Vegas, 6, 7, 8 etc.) even though I previously downloaed Sony Vegas 9? And I will probably download 9 once I get rid of this virus on my laptop lol.
