|
|
I loaded Sony Vegas on a new computer (a PC) and now when I import my clips, the audio is not there. These clips have audio when played using a program like Windows Media player, and they have audio when I play them on my other computer. But when I import the video and place it in the trimmer it does not even acknowledge that the clip has audio. If I work with the clip and try to select Video only, video and audio ,or audio only, I get kicked completely out of the program.
The music track is fine,I'm able to import music and place it under the clips.I just can't get the clip audio.
Why would Sony Vegas not acknowledge the audio on the clips? Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I've tried everything I can think of. Sony Vegas just has me so frustrated.

What format are the clips in? If they're AVIs, try converting them to WMV _________________

Is this new computer using a different operating system than your previous one where the clips have audio in Vegas? Like is it Windows 7 while the other was Vista or the like?
I'd guess it's a problem with a missing codec or a codec conflict of some sort (particularly since you get thrown out of Vegas by trying to select the audio in the trimmer). Unless, of course, it's just that the new install went wrong.
You might try Googling some variation of "no audio, Sony Vegas (your version number), (your operating system)" and you'll probably find a lot of hits for that. Have a scan through the answers and see if you find someone who's had the same or similar problem, they might have an answer that would work for you. I'm hesitant to suggest a lot of things since I'm not sure of your operating system AND I'm not familiar with Windows 7 or even Vista, in the first place, both of which work differently than XP when it comes to codecs and such as they relate to Vegas. I definitely don't want to tell you something that might mess your computer up! Hopefully somebody with more familiarity than me can help you with this.
Anyway, I'm certainly sorry you're having such trouble. I know how frustrating it is when something just won't work and it's supposed to. Good luck and I hope you can get this solved quickly! |

My usual computer is windows xp,this one's windows 7.The clips are MOV files.I've never used those kind before in my previous videos, but they worked fine with sony vegas on the windows xp computer.
I was working on making some videos for ABC's promo contest and the files they gave me are MOV.I usually work with WMV files for clips. For audio/music I usually stick to MP3 and WAV.
I'll check my program using WMV files and see if it still doesn't acknowledge the audio.

Running Vegas 7 on Win 7 with no problem with .mov files.
* Are you running Vegas as administrator? I have mine defaulted to do that. To set it up as default, rightclick the program, choose the compatibility tab, and, at the bottom, under privilege level, check run this program as administrator.
* Failing that, try running the program in compatibility mode for XP (same tab, up top.)
These suggestions may/may not resolve the problem, but it seems to work for me. Please note I'm more familiar with software/computers in general than I am with Vegas, so if it's a specifically Vegas-centric problem, I may not be able to help.

Ahhhh, being that it's .MOV, that's a Quicktime format, whose latest version has been known to have a compatibility issue with Vegas, so that you don't get any sound. If you have the latest version of iTunes, then it has the Quicktime that often won't work with Vegas installed as well. They were recommending rolling back to the previous version of iTunes and Quicktime for it to let you have the sound back.
However, if you can get the sound to work on the other computer, what I would do would be render the sound off of the clips there into .MP3 or .WMA and then just transfer that to the new computer and use the .MOV for the video and .MP3 or .WMA for the sound. Or render the .MOV into .WMV on the other computer and just use that for both. If you're not planning on using .MOV in the future, then you could be able to get around having to try to change things on the new computer just to fix it for these couple of clips.
So my advice would be to convert the clips to .WMV or, if the video works fine on the .MOV and you'd rather use that instead, then render the sound off and recombine them again on the new computer in that way. |

I did a little experiment with Sony Vegas and found that it has no problem with WMV clips. The audio works fine with them.
So whenever I had a clip with audio, I took it to Windows Movie Maker and converted it to WMV.
When I installed Sony Vegas on the new computer,I did have to install the new Quicktime and Itunes.I did wonder if that was part of the problem because it kept talking about a plug-in from Quicktime.
I can't use my other computer to render anything from Sony Vegas at the moment.I've used up most of my memory and it refuses to render anything anymore.I'm having to clean it so I don't lose all the videos I was working on.
' Are you running Vegas as administrator? I have mine defaulted to do that. To set it up as default, rightclick the program, choose the compatibility tab, and, at the bottom, under privilege level, check run this program as administrator. '
I'm not sure what it's set under.I'll check into this and see if that might make it more compatible with other video formats.
Thanks for the help.
