*waves* I have a question about codecs, more specificially, the K-Lite Codec pack, so I thought I'd ask y'all since I believe some of you use it.

Ever since I reinstalled XP, I've been in the process of getting my computer set up as much like it was before. One thing I forgot was that Windows Media Player won't play DVDs without a DVD decoder (which Microsoft cheerfully tells you that you can buy ). I can't remember how I solved this problem initially but I was thinking about installing more codecs anyway to try to get Vegas to let me use the audio in .AVI.

But! I've been looking at the K-Lite Codec pack and heck if I know what parts of it I need to install!

Here's the info on it:

Quote:
There are three versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: Basic, Standard and Full.
• K-Lite Codec Pack Basic contains only the most essential things. It contains everything you need to be able to play the most popular and widespread formats. It is small enough to fit on a single floppy. Also great for including on your movie CDs.
• K-Lite Codec Pack Standard contains everything you need to play all the commonly used formats. This package should be enough for the average user.
• K-Lite Codec Pack Full contains even more codecs. It also has encoding support for the various formats. This package is for power users and people who do their own encodings.

*has large question mark over her head*

I already have the current DivX version but I have no idea what might make the .AVI audio work in Vegas and which of the MPEG-2s (I think it's the MPEG-2's anyway! ) would make the DVD audio work. Anybody have a clue? Or do I just install a ton of them and see how it goes? *has fear of muffing up her computer after finally getting it mostly up and running again after 6 weeks without it, meep!* And will they uninstall easily without leaving my computer brain damaged???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
