The .MSWMM file you mentioned is actually the Movie Maker project file itself. What you'll need to do to save it as a .WMV file is open your project and go to File. Then click either 'Save Movie As...' (if you're using Windows XP) or 'Publish Video' (if you're using Windows Vista). Then just follow the steps to save your video! _________________

Ah, we were going to contact you about that. If you have any problem with the rendering (the Save Movie As/Publish Video) process, don't hesitate to let us know! Once your vid is in .WMV, then just resubmit that and it should be fine! Good luck and welcome to LVI! |

Hey there, Donna! The last time I tried to upload a vid at YouTube, I had that same never ending "connecting" message. Have you tried that link where it says something like "click here if you're having trouble with the uploader?" That was what I did and it finally did upload for me.
Now, if you've already tried that and it didn't work, have you tried uploading your vid to other hosting places to see if that will work? imeem is another streaming site that's sort of equivalent to YouTube (though at this time LVI isn't set up to embed imeem on our main site like we can YouTube). There's also zShare which provides streaming and downloading abilities though only for a limited time.
Anyway, if you're not able to upload anywhere else, then I would think that it probably is a problem with something like your firewall. Particularly if you've recently updated your firewall, changed something about it, or installed a new one. If the problem seems to be just with YouTube, then it may clear up on its own. YouTube was down for quite a while the other day and I've heard about a lot of other people having trouble with the uploader and with having to wait 10 -12 hours or more for it to finish "processing" and things like that. If that's the case, then at least it isn't something wrong on your end (which is good ) but also means we'll have to hope that YouTube finally gets it fixed on their end (which is annoying but at least doesn't mean there's something wrong with your computer ). |

Hi! Um, I was wondering if .AVI is alright to upload to youtube or do I need to compress it or something? I imagine it might take a long time to get it on there, but I wanted to make sure I was doing it right. _________________ All for: Skate, Jawyer, Jate, Jacket, Suliet, Shoone, and basically, Dan Faraday and Sawyer + everyone. :D |

Hi there, TheCorporeal! Yes, YouTube accepts .AVI (though you're correct that if it's a large file as .AVI often is, then it will take you quite a while to upload it, depending on your connection speed). Here's what YouTube's help information says about file formats:
Quote: | What video file formats can I upload?
YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG transferred from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones.
We've found that files converted from .wmv to one of the other formats our webpage accepts generally have a lower playback quality than other file formats. If you have your source video in a format other than a .wmv file, you may want to encode directly to MPEG4 (DivX, Xvid, SVQ3) at 640x480 resolution, with 64k Mono MP3 Audio. If you have a source .wmv in high bitrate and larger resolution you may want to convert to MPEG4 at full resolution and then resizing to 320x240 using a high quality resizing algorithm - this can help reduce the number of artifacts you end up with. |
All of the vids I have up at YouTube are .WMV and they have varying degrees of quality. Some turned out pretty good, others are pretty horrible. But most people understand that, having dealt with the way YouTube's compression works, and don't hold that against your vid. Plus you can always offer a download link from another hosting place if people would like to see the better looking version. Anyway, hope that helps a bit! |

Oh! Thank you so much! :D That helps a lot! I'm totally clueless about Youtube other than watching videos, and this is the first time I've uploaded or made a fanvid, haha. Plus, I decided to download that Youtube multi-uploader thing so I can track the uploading process and not be totally clueless to if it's working or not. It's currently at 19%, so yay, thanks again!
Also, I'll take your advice on going to another hosting site for offering the better quality one, too. :D _________________ All for: Skate, Jawyer, Jate, Jacket, Suliet, Shoone, and basically, Dan Faraday and Sawyer + everyone. :D |
