I was surfing around on YouTube and when I saw something about Lost on the top as a director's video I was like WHAT?? So I clicked on it. Poor newbie didn't know not to use band footage mixed in. And apparently with Locke's Eddie friend no less.

There are some spoilers with clips from upcoming episodes, but only near the end of the video.

This has been up at ABC.com for a long time now. Looks like they put it on youtube for the premeire of season 3 1/2.

LOL@Band footage.

Yeah I didn't think it was that great. Certain parts are good. But the funny part is that it's not the song's fault.

LOL I watched it again. They totally added scenes at the end to promote the return. This isn't the original version.

i always thought it would be fun to use band footage in a video just as a joke, i guess not though.

lol haven't we seen that one before?

The sad thing is that if that vid was submitted here, it'd get a Silver, if that. And that's not because of the band footage (that's kinda the best part of this lol), it's just totally random clips. The band footage just adds to that randomness and makes it more pointless...
But yeah, wolffootball37, adding some footage from the song's music video isn't forbidden, we just really don't recommend it. It's just a cheap way to make your vid look cool, but still have no point (kinda like those UK trailer vids lol). It's like.... we know you didn't create that footage, so we don't care how cool it is, it doesn't make you any better a vidder. Which is why we don't recommend you bring yourself down to that level .
But as a joke or something - sure If it adds to the vid that would be a good thing.

Yeah. The reason the editing is always so pointless and random in "official" music videos is because they're doing it to sell the show to as many viewers as possible, not make art. For them it's business. For us it's a hobby and a pasttime.

What if one of us made a video that they used?? A really good edited video would probably interest viewers a lot more to go and watch it. Just rambling thoughts and wishful thinking though....

You know what? I really DO think fan videos attract new fans way more than official ones. I mean, I got to know Lost through a fan vid... I watched it, thought it was fantastic and decided to give the series a chance! (it remains one of my favorites, by the way...)

But it's like you said, they're not interested in art, or at least not this particular kind of art. Their "thing" is not music videos, it's TV series. Music videos are just a way to try and reach out to new fans, I guess... But fan vids work better 'cause, well, they're made by the fans.

That's what I think at least...

Totally agree. Though that doesn't explain the non-tv-show ones completely lacking in beat use or story, and usually relying on weird artsy themes to make them at all interesting

If vidding had just a bit more class as a form of art, then perhaps that would happen. Especially since they'd probably be able to get our services for free or close to it anyway . We can only hope for what the future holds.

That too for business. Although it makes me wonder... why there wouldn't be people competent enough in the business to have beat use and all that jazz, like you said. Seems like these days no one can make good movies, music or music videos anymore. Maybe they're trying to be abstract, I don't know.

But I think the whole history of music videos has been about the usual insignificance of a video to the song and more about visuals to make a statement to draw attention and sell (especially sex sells).

One exceptional exception, though, would be videos like Amish Paradise and White and Nerdy (both Weird Al music vids )

lol I'm feeling myself so embrassed right now, 'cause one idea with a new vid. stuck in me right (I'm not quite sure it would be a LOST music vid, but anyway) and for it I'm going to use singer music vid. footage, 'cause it would complete my music vid idea, and I will doing it not because of simpless makening , but because of colour balance (colour would be the main idea, so I will change colour in a music vid, and the little piece of singer footage would complete it well hopefully )...

I've noticed that not only is this vid deleted, but the entire InsideLost account has disappeared. Wonder why.
