This is why I use a watermark. I keep seeing videos using MY clips and it's very aggravating. Not only is this person guilty of clip theft, but an even worse crime of using the worst remake ever. I PMed the vidder and asked them to either credit me and the other vidders they took from (if any) OR take the video down or I will report them. And I have yet hear back from them. But I don't want to report them because I think I will, in a way, be reporting myself for 'copyright infringement' and YouTube will also delete my videos as well.
So I need some help. What can I do?
Stolen Video: My Heart Will Go On
My video: Everytime We Touch
My watermark is clearly seen from 2:10 - 2:40. They took 30 seconds from my vid and used it in theirs. _________________ -Jane |

The thing with clip theft that is very tricky, especially if the video is on a site like YouTube, is that there's not really ANYTHING that you can do. You can send them a message asking them to take it down or pointing out their clip theft TO THEM, but if they don't want to do anything about it, there's nobody to make them. (If you report them to YouTube, you have to keep in mind that your original video is also a culprit of copyright infringement and thus you can be setting yourself to be reported as well - not to mention, I DOUBT anyone at youtube would care/would do anything.)
If they have the vid posted here at LVI, you can always report them to the Council and they'll take care of it on the LVI side of things. But beyond that there really is NOTHING that you can do.
Some people who steal clips/sequences, often have no real idea that what they're doing is even wrong - it is a common "newbie" mistake. But they'll never learn if no one points it out to them. Perhaps if you do let them know about it, they will in the very least receive a small measure of education about the fact that what they've done is not okay, and maybe they won't do it in the future. |
