I have been using a trial version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11. I've been pretty satisfied with it and I'm thinking about purchasing the whole suite (with DVD Architect, Sound Forge etc). But before I spend my money on this product I have a few questions about it.

Is there anyway to get it to display the clip you are working with in the trimmer, in the main preview box? ( Like it does on other versions of Sony Vegas.)

With my last video I ended up with bunches of "proxy clips".Does it only create proxies when you have imported the movie file from an older version of Sony Vegas? (I really hate proxy clips, they're a waste of space.)

The trial version has been a little slow and dragging when I try to preview the video on the timeline. My older version doesn't usually do this. Does it usually have a drag, or is this because (1) I currently have two Vegas Progams, (2) It's a trial version?

Also, can you customize the layout? I've gotten used to my tracks being on the top and my trimmer and preview being on the bottom of the page. (If you can't customize it, I'll just get used to it.)

I think those are my main questions.I've been able to figure out quite a bit about it through trial and error.

I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you but I was curious about this version so I had a look at Sony's site to see what it includes. Here's the page about it and I see there's a video about customizable window layouts, so hopefully that can help you when it comes to your question about the window layouts.

For the rest of your questions, have you tried Vegas' Help section? Sometimes you get lucky and the answers are there, lol!

I have a question for you, if you don't mind? Does the pan/crop tool have the point-to-point mask function? You can see what it would look like here in Dayln's masking tutorial (scroll down and you'll find a screencap of the pan/crop tool with the mask timeline underneath the position one.

I see they've added the Secondary color corrector (YAY! ) but did they give any more compositing tracks? You can see where you find compositing tracks in Kat's tutorial about using textures in the screencap for step 4.

And lastly, how many audio and video tracks do they allow you to have?

Sorry for answering all of your questions with more totally unrelated questions of my own but the pan/crop mask, Secondary color corrector, compositing tracks and having more audio/video tracks are all on my wish list for Vegas Movie Studio since my 6 doesn't have any of them or has them in very limited form. Vegas Pro is waaaay too expensive to even consider but if Movie Studio ever gets them, at least that's more doable!

Thanks!

I will have a look at the Help section and check out the vid on customizing the layout.

I don't mind answering your questions. I've put my answers in Italics.

'I have a question for you, if you don't mind? Does the pan/crop tool have the point-to-point mask function? You can see what it would look like here in Dayln's masking tutorial (scroll down and you'll find a screencap of the pan/crop tool with the mask timeline underneath the position one. '

I don't see the mask option in Pan/Crop.All I see in that area is where it says 'Position'.I didn't see any other options on my screen like where it was shown in the screencap in Dayln's masking tutorial.

I see they've added the Secondary color corrector (YAY! ) but did they give any more compositing tracks? You can see where you find compositing tracks in Kat's tutorial about using textures in the screencap for step 4. '

I see compositioning tracks with each video track. It lets you create a compositioning parent or child. When you click the compositioning button it says 'Multiply (Mask)' or 'Source Alpha'.

The secondary color corrector is a great tool.I was enjoying getting to use the new effects when I made my last video.

'And lastly, how many audio and video tracks do they allow you to have? '

You get 10 video tracks and 10 audio tracks.

'Sorry for answering all of your questions with more totally unrelated questions of my own but the pan/crop mask, Secondary color corrector, compositing tracks and having more audio/video tracks are all on my wish list for Vegas Movie Studio since my 6 doesn't have any of them or has them in very limited form. I've been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio version 8 and I'm wanting to upgrade so I can get some more effects and transitions.I only have 4 video/audio tracks so I'm definately happy with the 10 tracks this one offers. The secondary color corrector is a big selling point for me,it's got great effects I've been trying to figure out how to make for myself in my version of Sony Vegas.

I'd love to have Vegas Pro,but I know what you mean about it being way to expensive.I've used the trial a few times and I wish I could get some of those effects, but a few extra effects and transitions isn't worth $500+.

I'm looking at getting the suite version because of the extra programs it comes with besides Sony Vegas. It's also supposed to come with a program with extra effects and one with 300-400 soundtracks. I would suggest if you're looking at getting any new kind of Sony Vegas, check the prices on Amazon.com.(They are slightly cheaper than Sony is and you might get free shipping. )

I will try to have another, more through look at the program tomorrow and see if I can figure out if any of the features you asked about are there somewhere. I'm not very familiar with some of those features,so they're not sticking out to me as I'm looking it over.

Thank you so much for answering my questions! It looks like then the major upgrades was in adding the secondary color corrector and going from 4 audio/video tracks each to 10, both of which are definitely very cool!

Still no extra compositing settings (my Movie Studio 6 has the same Multiply (Mask) and Source Alpha options ) or pan/crop masking abilities but who knows? Maybe one day!

Thank you again, I really appreciate you looking to see what is and isn't there from my "Vegas wish list," lol! I hope you're able to find the answers to the questions that you have about it all! *fingers crossed* ♥!
