I was watching a video on Youtube and the video maker said that Youtube only checks the first 30 seconds of your video .

Is this true?
If so,does this mean that if you leave the first 30 seconds silent or use a song not affected by copyright issues infront of one that is ,your video won't get taken down?

I was just curious if avoiding audio copyright issues on Youtube was a simple as doing some kind of silent 30 second intro (or one with an unaffected song).

It used to about six months ago; but they wised up to it and it doesn't anymore. They can still tell right away if it's a copyrighted song. But every time I've had my audio disabled, I just dispute the claim because under the Fair Use policy of copyright law; we're allowed to post them there.

Follow that and you're audio should come back straight away

Thanks for answering my question.

I thought it seemed to easy to just not start the song for 30 seconds.

I'll try to dispute the claim next time I have trouble with the audio on my video.

Yeah that's what I used to do I'd have title cards saying "Please waiting 30 seconds" lol and it worked for awhile; that's why people started coming up with 30 second intros but eventually YT cottoned on :S

I've found that if you name your .WMV (or whatever) file as the song name, that's how they instantly work out you're using a copyrighted song so they disable it. But then I tried just giving it a random name (the vid character/couple for example) on a vid which previously got disabled and it allowed it. I did that on the Sony Vegas file too, just in case.

Works for me, anyway

i guess it still works sometimes...i uploaded something that they immediately disabled, and then i reuploaded it with like 35 secs of black and they havent touched it. but as other said, the dispute thing with fair use works as well..

That's an interestng tip ,to give the file a random name instead of using the song title.I usually use the song title so when I am reviewing my videoes I know what song I used.I might try that some time on a video that has been disabled and see if it works.

I'll also keep the fair use dispute in mind.
