I just got the full version of Vegas 7. Can someone explain to me how to make a border around the video? I always thought that was cool... _________________

I'm not sure if it's the same in the full version of Vegas 7 compared to my Vegas Movie Studio 6.0, but that's under the tab that says Media Generator, Color gradients. You drag it to a timeline above your video clips, I believe (I haven't tried that one yet *makes mental note to try it some time* ). Hope that helps! |

Yeah, I think it's different in Vegas 7 Ais.
All you have to do is go down to the bottom and click the tab that says Video FX, and then look on the list to the side that says border. Then you click on the border you want and drag it on to the clip. You can than adjust the color and thickness and all that fun stuff, in the window that pops up.
Hope that helps! _________________ Morgan

I posted a post asking about text and I realized I should have just asked it here sorry!
Just without all the spazzy cool effects, how do you even add text (in the simplest way), for instance- opening credits type? Lol.... like just getting it to appear and fade in.
Thanks for any help! _________________ <3 Jourdan

Heya CF! I'm going to just borrow Steph's post from a few pages back because she had a link to a tutorial and everything.
Fan4Lost wrote: | Quick zooms are done using keyframes. If you're unsure about how to use keyframes, consult this article. Make sure you read the whole thing, because it will explain how to zoom using the keyframes a little further down. The closer the keyframes are together, the quicker the zoom. |
And the farther away the keyframe, the slower the zoom will be. It's all through the magic of the pan/crop tool! If that doesn't answer your question just give a holler!

Heya Jourdan! The text creation stuff is located under the Media Generator tab. I've personally never got the hang of the Credit Roll thing (it never comes out the way I want it ) so I do all of mine as just Text. I almost always use the default text option. Once you type in what you want and pick your fonts and all of that, you'll see you have a lot of options for placing the text, adding drop shadows, etc. to it. However, what's cool is the ever-handy pan/crop tool will also work on text, so you can fade in and out of your titles just like it was a "regular" clip and you can have motion in it in the same way. In "Only Hope" I start with those two words fading in while they're slowly moving away from the screen, then they fade out. That was all via the pan/crop tool.
Hope that helps! |

It helped tons Ais! I have never had the need to use text in Vegas before, so I didn't even know where it was located :p .
But another question- If I use default text, the background color is automatically black, which makes the clip I put it over darker. Is there a way I can make the background color transparent? I've been fiddling but I can't figure it out. _________________ <3 Jourdan

Hmmmmmm... The default text in Vegas Movie Studio 6 has a transparent background and then there's a choice next to it that says "Solid background."
Okay, so I went in and played around with it and even if you go with "Solid background" you can still go to the Properties tab -- Background color (where the snazzy hand-drawn arrow is pointing)
...then just lower that all the way down. That controls the opacity of the background and you can make it completely transparent with that slider. Of course, this is presuming we have similar controls. Hopefully there's something close if it's not exactly the same! |

Okay, so I decided to give you a visual here-
I just used 'Lost' as the sample text i'm trying to put on. I have no idea where to place it- do I place it on top of the clip, as shown, or underneath? Cause if I place it underneath, I don't see it.
Then, if you look at the sample box, it's all dark, because even though I moved the 'Background color' tab down to the bottom like you showed me, it changes it to black, not transparent. So in the second image the cursor is on just the font, and all that's shown is pure black.
Sorry Ais! I'm just struggling to understand this, lol. You are such a great teacher! Thanks for helping me! _________________ <3 Jourdan

Jourdan, you have to put the text in the video track above your video clip, not on top of it. _________________

EDIT- we crossposted Sass, right as I figured it out. Lol.
Oh god... so I think I fixed it? I mean, whatever i'm doing works, I just am curious to know if this is how you do it-

If it shows up on the screen, it should be ok. Glad that's working out for you. _________________

No worries, Jourdan! These things are tough to figure out! Here's a look at "Only Hope" in its project phase:
Since Movie Studio only has 4 video tracks and I have to save one for my watermark (that's what you see at the top), I went ahead and put my title on the same track as my "main" vid clips. You can see that I faded into and out of that title "clip" just like it was a regular one.
Anyway, the main thing to remember is if you're going to make something partially transparent, whether its the background on the titles or if you're using the cookie cutter or pan/crop mask to split-screen or overlay, then you want to put that clip on a higher timeline or your "solid" clip will hide it. That's why my watermark is on the very top and why clips like Des wiping away Penny's tear is on the track over Des staring off into space. If that had been reversed, then you couldn't have seen Penny.
Hopefully that makes sense! |
