|
|
I just installed Sony Vegas onto my computer. It seems to be working great.
Except that I can't open any .AVI files with it! First, I downloaded an AVI Lost episode and even if I'm not in Vegas it says that I need to run the file from the Adminstator account so it can set up a license. That doesn't really do anything though. I can still play the file with Windows media player. However, when I try to open it up in Vegas, it doesn't give me the option of opening the file in Trimmer, etc. With another file that I downloaded from YouTube into AVI format, I can open it with Trimmer, but it says that the media is offline and I get no video.
I already used the FOURCC Code Changer thingy for these files but it doesn't seem to help. WMV files open up just fine in Vegas.
I'd really appreciate any help on this matter. *sigh* I feel like I'm never going to be vidding again... _________________

I wish it were that simple, Cinthia! Vegas doesn't even seem to be accepting CONVERTED WMVs. It freezes up when I try to put them on the timeline. It only takes WMVs that were downloaded that way. I don't understand why... *grumbles*
Yeah, I was ready to vid for a while. I have all these ideas, but everything physical seems to be holding me back - no episodes, complicated programs! _________________

First of all... YAY, MARIA'S GETTING READY TO VID AGAIN, WOOT!!!! [/capslocky]
Secondly, ohhh boyyyyy... Vegas is notorious for not playing well with .AVI so I was going to suggest the same thing Cinthia did -- use WMM to convert them into .WMV. That's how I have to do all of my footage and so far -- knock wood -- it hasn't given me any trouble.
But if Vegas won't accept the converted .WMV files... that seriously sucks! That definitely sounds like a codec problem but I don't think I've ever heard of a codec problem crossing formats like that! Usually if there's a problem with .AVI, then converting it into .WMV would solve it!
Wow. I'm stumped. I'll do some research on this and get back to you as soon as I can! (They're going to have my power off again for 4 hours tomorrow, this after having it off for 7 hours today! ARGH! So that kinda puts a crimp in my ability to, you know, use the computer! ) I promise I'll do my best to find something out ASAP!
In the meanwhile, don't lose heart! We'll find a way around this! *smishes* |

I just noticed that again as I was about to leave this thread. Whatever's causing that Administrator/license warning is behind the whole thing, I betcha dollars for donuts! Now, just to figure out what's causing it! |

It might be a codec problem. I had similar issues with Vegas and after installing it started getting problems with Virtualdub and Ulead. Turns out that Vegas just messes up your codec settings during install and doesn't even notify you let alone give you a choice. My codecs came from the K-Lite pack, and amongst other jollies Vegas had downgraded my Divx version from 6.xx to 5 and screwed up my ffdshow filters. |

Didn't want you to think that I'd forgotten you!
I've been researching as I said I would be and so far all I've found is that the gripe about the Administrator setting up the license sounds like it's something with copy protection on it. Haven't found any solution. And I'm STILL stumped that WMM will accept the AVI and render it into WMV and Vegas won't accept that...
*sigh* I think there's something deeper going on here that's just kinda beyond my wee li'l brain, I'm so sorry to say. There's GOT to be an answer to it, though!
I'll keep looking! Keep me informed of what's going on! I'm bound and determined to get you vidding again if at all possible! *hugs you!* |

Aislynn, I don't want to jinx it but my Vegas has started accepting AVIs turned into WMVs. Well, at least certain ones. I downloaded several clips from Youtube (and were turned into AVI) - I turned those into WMV and they now work. *crosses fingers and prays some malevolent computer god won't spite me for my words*
The only thing that I'm having trouble with is the full episode. I downloaded "Flashes Before my Eyes" in AVI. The media was apparently 'offline' in Vegas even when I used FourCC with it. I converted it to WMV and A) the audio and visual were way off sync; B) not opening in Vegas and crashing. I split the ep into 4 parts and converted each part separately into a WMV file. Fixed the audio/visual problem, but I still cannot import it into Vegas without crashing.
Oh, well, I might have to just find a trick into never downloading a single episode and becoming a beggar of clips in Clip Request Thread. _________________

I can't open the .avi episodes i download in Vegas either, so i converted them to.... .avi! But using divx codec... I don't understand that very well, but I know my converter has two options: AVI format (.avi) and DIVX format (.avi), and the second format works, but the first one doesn't... maybe you can try to convert to divx then...
Don't know if it'll work, but you never know, right? _________________

I think I get what you're saying. Does this process of yours involve the FourCC changer thingy? I've converted it to DIVX with that program, but it still won't open! Thanks anyway! _________________

I don't use FourCC, i use ImTOO MPEG Encoder... but i think the converted file is the same, it doesn't matter the program you use, right?
Can't it be a problem that happened during the installation? Did you intall it again? Don't know, just thinking out loud... well, i'll try to think a little more, and if i have a genius idea i let you know! _________________

Unfortunately, I have had the same trouble with it as well. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm sorry. I feel kind of responsible here. |

OH, don't feel responsible! If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't even have the opportunity to use Vegas! _________________
