If they're "real" subtitles, you should be able to turn subtitles off on any media player, but if they're part of the video I don't think you can take them off. |

I use Ulead VideoStudio 9, which you can get a free trial of at download.com
I've also used WMM2.
For dvd ripping, well, I've ripped and encoded alot of them, and I use DVD Decryptor and Flask_M ... |

I love WinAvi converter. I especially like it for encoding vcds, but it also converts to avi, wmv, etc. |

if you want a high quality version, you can try saving as svcd format, or go to custom and click "options" to select your dimensions and whatnot. |
