As many of you may have noticed: http://www.lostvideo.net/council_picks.php some changes have been going on with the site lately, and this is by far the most prominent.
But changes haven't just been going on in the last few weeks though, they've been going on for months. Lost Video Island has changed from a small vidding community to a grand vidding hub where hundreds of videos are sent in every month. We're all very proud of this fact, because it means that more people are discovering the wonders of vidding, we are receiving more people in the forums to talk to, and more great videos are being sent in. However, with this comes a price: we are no longer the tightly-knit little community we once were, we have to change to accomodate a bigger community. More videos coming in mean less original ideas to claim, and greater competition to stand out above the crowd. Because of this, judging for LVI's award, The LVI Council Pick Seal, has been getting harsher and harsher, to the point where a video has to not only be done well, it also has to have something original and different from the rest of the videos. And even a video that has an excellent use of the song and beat, but lacks originality, could often get turned down.
To face this growing problem, we have discussed, and decided to break the tradition we have held so strongly of "one award to those videos that are exceptional, and none to those that aren't" and have implemented a new award:
The Silver LVI Council Pick seal
The SCP is here because we have seen far too many vids that are so close to achieving all that they need to trully stand on their own as an excellent video that can withstand the ages, and need something that can encourage them to keep vidding. All those shipper vids that are done superbly but just don't have anything not done before: this is for them. All those vids that you would love if you were already a fan of the song, but they just don't have anything special to stand on their own: this is for them. All those vidders that are new but trying their hardest to be the best they can be, and are oh-so-close: this is for them.
Getting an SCP means your vid, in our opinion, is almost ready to stand by itself as an excellent video, but just needs a little bit more. If you would like to know what that is, ask a Council Member, and we'll be happy to give you that reason.
Our greatest fear when implementing this award has always been that people who do not revieve some form of Council Pick would feel like their video is horrible. This is not our intent. Just because a video does not recieve an award doesn't make it bad in any way, and people don't seem to realize this. We award perfection, or near-perfection. Just because someone doesn't want to conform to that sort of quality does not make them a bad vidder, it just means they won't be awarded with a CP, simple as that. LVI is for all vidders, of all levels of experience, and we never want to impede on that unless we have to.
All future videos submitted as of May 17th, 2006, 6:00 PM Pacific Time, all videos sent in to LVI will be eligible for both Gold and Silver CPs. No videos submitted before this point will be rejudged. We wish we could, but over 1000 videos to judge is a big number  and voting on any, yet leaving the rest, is just unfair.
That all said, we hope you enjoy the new Silver Council Pick seals!  They took some work to implement, and a whole lot of contemplating to decide whether to put them in or not Enjoy!
