| So Long, Daddy's Girl (Shannon-centric) |

So Long, Daddy's Girl
A/N: written for a picture prompt of a gravestone for my claim at LJ community, deviant_muses.
The rain pelted her like tiny bullets, slapping her in the face; landing on her and dripping itchily down her skin. It had grown dark and Shannon Rutherford still sat, in the downpour, at the base of her father’s fresh grave. The grass hadn’t even had the common courtesy to hurry up and grow over the still-mounded earth that rested haphazardly over his coffin.
As she pushed large chunks of sodden blond cascades of hair away from her eyes, Shannon felt a shiver run down her spine. It was as though when the rain began to fall, it had immediately washed away the warmth that the sun had left over the stench of decayed flowers and left-over sorrows; as though the rain was really just an illusion to explain the sudden lack of warmth that had moments earlier permeated the air on this particular balmy night. It was, however, an illusion that fell in fat, hard drops, sending her skin into a wet flurry of goose pimples and putting the hair on her arms at a salute to it’s chill.
Shannon sat there for what had been hours on end that day. The sun hadn’t even begun to set when she’d approached the headstone and, not having the courage to sit beside it, had plopped down unceremoniously on the grass at the very foot of what was left of her father. Now, the moon shined brightly, peeking through a hole in the black rain clouds as if to mock her as she grieved.
Things would never be the same. Her life felt as though it had come to an abrupt halt. She thought to herself, bitterly so, that her father would’ve wanted his little girl to move on quickly. To file her grievances under “save it for another day,†and continue on with her charmed life as though nothing had happened; as though a large piece of her heart hadn’t shattered to into a million little pieces with jagged edges that poked and prodded at her insides whenever she thought that the morning’s sunlight meant a new and better day was on the horizon.
Adam Rutherford was just another man, at this moment. Just another presence that left her behind; abandoned her. They always did. They always will. Shannon didn’t want to feel this way about her dad; she just...did. He was supposed to live forever. He was supposed to be there for her; to take care of her. Now, she had no one. Boone was just as good as no one, so long as he continued to be his mother’s son, and Sabrina, herself? The thought of leaning on Sabrina for anything actually forced a humorless laugh out of Shannon as she sat.
Standing slowly, wiping her bottom, which was still somewhat dry, but numb, from having been sitting rooted to the same spot for so long, Shannon took one last look at the headstone. She shook her head and frowned, turning on her heels and walking down the muddy path to leave this wretched place. It was at that very moment, as Shannon realized that she was on her officially on her own, that she made her decision. She was leaving here and she was never coming back.
Her cell phone lit up as she flipped it open, staring at it with hurt-filled eyes, and she pulled up her contact list, highlighting the entry that said “Daddys Cell.†She deleted it and a tear fell from her eye, joining the raindrops with an icy-hot sensation as it slid down her cheek.
“So long, Daddy’s girl,†she muttered to herself, and walked out of the cemetery for the last time.

My neighbors got evicted at the beginning of this month. I was really sad to hear it, and sadder to see them go, because they were good neighbors. They never were too loud, and they always gave me carte blanche on stuff before they sold it, which was good, because I didn't have ANY furniture.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, they were finally up on the time to get out, and they knocked on my door asking if they could store some of their things on my porch for a few days, because they didn't have room to move them just yet. I said it was fine, because I figured I owed them for all the stuff they gave me, and so they moved a mattress, a recliner, an end table, and a dresser onto my balcony. I never go out there, so I didn't mind. They came back the next day and knocked again, telling me that they couldn't pick it up just yet, but they would send someone over in the next couple of days to get it. Cool, that's fine. Only, I never open my blinds, because the weather has been crappy, and I never go outside, because it's cold...so until yesterday--almost two weeks later; when I opened the blinds because it was finally sunny out--I didn't realize that they had never picked the stuff up.
Today I come home from work and there's a letter in my door telling me that I have until Friday to get the stuff off the balcony or the complex is going to charge me $50 for clean up. I don't know if that means they plan on charging me and then hauling it away, or just charging me $50 a day until I move it, because I don't remember what it says in the lease and I can't find mine. "Unsightly balcony/porch" is a stipulation of my lease and the letter I got today was an "Official Warning". Either way, I'm out $50, because my apartment is too small to bring it inside, or I'd have done it already.
If it was my stuff, I'd just throw it away, but it isn't my stuff and I don't know what to do with it... I don't want to throw it away, because technically a verbal agreement is binding and I DID agree that they could use my balcony for storage. If I'd known that they were gonna d*ck around for two weeks, I'd have told them no, but I didn't realize that. I don't know where they are now or how to get a hold of them, and I don't want to get summoned to court because I got rid of their stuff. So...what do I do...?!

Lyrics:
Lovers in a Dangerous Time by The Barenaked Ladies
Dont the hours grow shorter as the days go by
You never get to stop and open our eyes
One minute youre waiting for the sky to fall
The next youre dazzled by the beauty of it all
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This fragrant skin this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
When youre lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes youre made to feel as if your loves a crime
Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness til it bleeds daylight
When youre lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
We were lovers in a dangerous time
We were lovers in a dangerous time
I'll get the song up soon.. I love BNL and Skate so this would be awesome.
