This was the special part, some of which was published in TV GUIDE magazine, but some of it is new.
Question: Can you give me a little tidbit on the super-secret twist that is supposedly going to blow us away on tonight's Lost finale?— Ben
Ausiello: I'll do you one better: I'll let Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse give it to you instead! In recognition of AA's 100th, the Lost EPs agreed to sit down and answer all of your burning questions, as well as offer a preview of tonight's fall finale and the remaining 16 episodes, kicking off Feb. 7. It's the best anniversary gift ever!

Damon Lindelof: Congratulations on your 100th column.
Carlton Cuse: Yes, congratulations.
Thank you! We have limited time, so I'm going to cut right to the chase. More than anything, AA readers wanna know if Michael and/or Walt will appear this season.
Carlton: We have a very clear plan for this season, and I don't think we'll get back to Michael and Walt's story this season.
With Eko gone, you no longer have any African-American men in the cast.
Carlton: Harold Perrineau's story is not finished. He is not on the show currently, but I think everybody is very curious to know what happened to Michael and Walt, and we hope to get back to that story. That character is still out there in the Lost universe.
One frustration I'm hearing is that viewers don't understand why you would bring in new characters like Paolo (Rodrigo Santoro) and Nikki (Kiele Sanchez) when it seems like you're already having trouble servicing the original characters.
Damon: That's a legitimate concern, and I wouldn't say that we have difficulty servicing the initial cast. I do think that we acknowledge that the franchise of Lost — if there was one since we don't have bodies on gurneys or clients coming into law firms — is the introduction of new characters. We basically get two criticisms: One is that we're not with our main people enough, and the other is [that people are] sick and tired of seeing redundant flashback stories. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. And another criticism we've been getting since the very beginning of the show is, "How come we never hear from, or incorporate into the story, the other passengers, the ones who are sort of carrying logs around in the background?" Obviously we knew it'd be tricky starting to fold Rodrigo and Kiele into the show as if they'd been there all along. But it was an effort on our part to sort of deal with two out of those three criticisms. Although the inevitable, “Why aren't we spending more time with Claire instead of spending time with people we don't know yet?" was going to come up. We suffer the slings and arrows of criticisms at almost every creative turn, and again, it's all in the service of the uber-story that is Lost.
Personally, I'd be happy if the show just featured Matthew Fox, Michael Emerson and Elizabeth Mitchell every week.
Damon: We're going to spin them off. It's going to be called "Ben & Friends."
One other complaint I'm hearing this season is that new mysteries are being presented before old ones are solved. Can you say anything about that?
Carlton: We're always in this sort of balancing act. [We want] to keep the audience engaged by the underlying mysteries of the show, but we also want to try to answer questions and give people some satisfaction. And I think maybe the pendulum has swung a little too much into the “Well, we need more answers†category, and we try to be attentive to that. I think there are some upcoming episodes — after the break in the spring — that will answer a number of the open questions. We certainly plan to tell the audience this year how Locke got in the wheelchair.
Damon: We'll be getting a lot more detailed about what happened to Locke, Eko and Desmond following the immediate aftermath of the hatch exploding, imploding or potentially doing something else.
Carlton: We're doing a flashback story where you'll find out how Jack got his tattoos.
Damon: And we'll begin peeling back layers of who the Others are, how long they've been on the island, what their origins are. That's really the sort of uber-plot of Season 3. And here's the thing: At the end of season 2, we downloaded a hell of a lot of mythology in those last couple episodes. We explained why the plane crashed and whether or not the button was the real deal. But at the same time, every time we close one door we have to open up another or else we risk falling victim to the Twin Peaks curse, which is that once they told you who killed Laura Palmer, there was no reason to watch the show anymore.
Carlton: What you might also be feeling is that kind of sense that we're basically working on Episode 60, so that's a lot of hours to not know, “What's the nature of this island? Where is this island?" The overarching mysteries of Lost remain unanswered. But those questions have to remain unanswered until the show ends. That's something we don't know and we're not in control of when it is going to end. We will attempt to answer some of the transitory questions, but obviously, the big ones have to stay unanswered.
Will Adewale be back for that flashback episode you just referred to?
Damon: It might not necessarily be a flashback episode.
But you said we're going to go back and find out what happened right after the hatch imploded or whatever.
Damon: Yes, we are. It might be a flashback, but we're not going to tell you how that information gets relayed.
Carlton: It might be a flash-forward or a flash-sideways.
Damon: It will certainly be a flash-something.
Carlton: It could be a flash in the pan.
Damon: Look, here's the thing, Michael. We believe audiences aren't really asking, “When are we going to get our answers?†They're asking, "Are we going to get our answers?" And that's a very savvy question for them to be asking, because of the nature of the television business, it's sort of like, "Are they just stringing us along?" And all Carlton and I can say is that we are absolutely committed to giving you those answers. We know what the answers are, and we're telling them in the most creatively satisfying way for us as storytellers.
A reader named Denise sent in what I think is a really good question. When the plane crashed, Ben told Goodwin that if he ran he could be at the crash site in an hour. Now if they're on two different islands, how could he possibly do that? Walk on water?
Carlton: That island isn't necessarily where they live. It's not necessarily the same place where we saw those guys in the beginning of the teaser of the season premiere this year. I think that would be a very reasonable explanation as to how Goodwin and Ethan could run from the Others' home camp to the crash site.
OK. Another reader, Baude, wants to know when we're going to find out what happened to those kids who were abducted.
Damon: I think you'll begin to get a real sense of the answer to that question in about the second episode back after the break — a very real sense.
Does it tie in at all to the fact that Juliet's a fertility doctor?
Damon: I think that's a reasonable connection.
Is the guy with the eye patch going to figure prominently this season?
Carlton: Oh yeah.
Damon: Prominently.
And what about the outside world?
Damon: Obviously, this is the big sort of dangler from Season 2. We broke perspective off the island for the first time — at least that's what we're leading everybody to believe — and, certainly, that ball is in motion and rolling down the hill at a very fast rate. That is pretty much what begins to dominate Season 3 once we come back from the break. It takes a couple of episodes to get up to speed, but the fact that the island may have been seen is pretty much the entire story arc of the second half of the year.
Is it too soon to talk about what this season's "challah" will be?
Carlton: Yes.
Damon: We've already gone on record as saying we're going to call it the "matzo" this year.
Carlton: Our biggest concern on the show is that we're going to run out of Jewish bread products.
Damon: There aren't that many.
Is there going to be a sort of "challah"-type thing at the end of tonight's episode?
Carlton: No.
Damon: It's not a game-changer.
Carlton: But there's a good cliff-hanger.
Damon: It's a much more conventional cliff-hanger in the vein of Jack Bauer going on a slow boat to China.
Carlton: We believe it's a cliff-hanger that will make the audience want to come back and watch the show when it picks up in February.
Damon: It will hopefully be good enough to incur major frustration from the audience as to "How dare we go off the air for 13 weeks and leave them hanging in that fashion!"
Carlton: The angrier we make them the better the cliff-hanger is, I guess.
You guys have been quoted as saying you're going to drop a "bomb" during the second half of the season.
Damon: There are two bombs being dropped, one of which is a character bomb, and that will happen within the first three episodes after the break. And the other is a more significant story bomb, a game-changer, as it were, and that will happen shortly after.

Last week, I had posted a Spoiler regarding Insiderscoop's info for Cost of Living. If you remember, he was DEAD-ON for everything. INsiderscoop is the MOST RELIABLE source out there.....and because of this, I'm even putting his synopsis of the "I Do" episode in Spoiler tags, because I don't even want to read it.
PLEASE NOTE: Insiderscoop's Spoilers are SERIOUS BUSINESS. If you don't want to read, then don't read! I have gotten one complaint of me putting this up, but that was the whole reason I used spoiler tags and gave a warning, and will do the same with these in the future. I don't want to with-hold spoiler information, but as with any other spoiler that heads this way, it's the choice of everyone to actually click on that button and read. If you know how true Insiderscoop's posts are, then you shouldn't even open the thread up if it has Insiderscoop in the title. I put thi up because some people do like to indulge in the information before seeing the episode. I used to be one of them. If Hobbes does have an issue with this, I won't post anymore Insiderscoop Spoilers, but until then, as always (and I'm very sorry I didn't do it last week...or did I? I can't remember) I will make sure to put full caps Insiderscoop in the title, put the spoiler in spoilertags, and make sure to give warning.

Kate centric
All of tonight?s flashbacks are of Kate.
Somehow while out on the run Kate falls in Love with a police officer named Kevin.
He thinks her name is Monica and they get married.
One day while out shopping she calls the Marshall and asks him to stop trying to find her.
But the Marshall insists that she?s not the type to settle down.
At breakfast her husband buys her Oceanic tickets to go to Costa Rica on there overdue honeymoon he then leaves for work in his Miami Dade patrol car. I didn?t notice the number of the car or house.
Later she takes pregnancy test and its negative but it freaks her out. She can?t have a kid while on the run. She confronts her husband but not before she drugs him. I?m a fugitive and you would eventually find out she then leaves him.
Present day
Locke, Sayid, Desmond and two people who we never saw for two years with Eko.
Locke tells group it might have been a bear or animal but sayid knows he?s lying.
Locke knows Eko was killed for a reason but doesn?t know what it is. They will bury Eko here but they went to get his Holy Stick.
During Eulogy Locke bangs Holy stick into grave and notices the writing. Lift up your eyes and look north
Locke takes this as a sign.
Jack checks the x-ray. Henry and Juliette walk in
Jack tells Henry he?s got about a week before the tumor becomes inoperable.
Henry says well do it tomorrow.
Jack says ?you misunderstood me, I?m letting you know how your gonna die.
I?m not going to do the operation
Henry says he?s disappointed
Jack says you won?t be disappointed long.
Kate and sawyer breaking rocks when there?s an alarm going off
Alex (French woman?s daughter) is taking out people with her slingshot.
She gets into a standoff with Pickett and she want to know where CARL is. (The boy in Kate?s cage.) She insists on talking to Henry. Pickett says O.K.
They grab her from behind and she yells to Kate don?t trust him he?s gonna kill your boyfriend (Sawyer).
Juliette shows up and asks Kate to put on a hood she needs her help to prevent Pickett from killing Sawyer.
Brings Kate to Jack they talk Kate begs Jack to operate on Henry. Jack refuses angrily.
What did they do to you why do you believe what they say?
Kate goes back to her cage talks to Sawyer about what happened. Sawyer doesn?t need saving. Kate want?s to break Sawyer out and try to run. She breaks Sawyers lock open and Sawyer tells her about the ?Alcatraz type? Island a couple of miles away.
There?s no where to run he didn?t want to tell her so she wouldn?t give up hope. They start making out and Yes they Had SEX. (I think one of them must die now do to the sex)
They share a moment when sawyer asked about what she said when he was getting beaten up by Pickett and she just kisses him. He says yeah I love you too.
Jack asleep hears the monitor again it sounded like Alex to me but it?s incoherent. Jack goes to his door and turns the handle and remarkable its open and nobody is out there. He goes down the hall to the control room Henry sits in to monitor everything. He keeps looking around and finds an armory he grabs a gun and loads it.
He checks the monitors again and sees Kate with Sawyer. Henry shows up behind Jack and says I would have thought that she would end up with you. Jack turned and pointed his gun at Henry. Henry says I guess this is the proverbial nail in my coffin. Jack looks at him and says Tomorrow.
Have everything I need ready and you better keep your word when it?s over I want off this island.
When Jack starts operating Pickett and an Other leave the observation area leaving Mr. Friendly behind. Pickett is basically going off to kill Sawyer.
During the operation Jack makes a cut in Henry?s (kidney) I think the monitor starts to beep and an Other assistant says should he be bleeding that much Jack says no and Knocks him out. He orders Juliette away from the table and talks to Mr. Friendly.
I made an incision and he?s got about an hour before he bleeds out and dies.
Come in here with your walkie talkie.
Meanwhile Sawyer got an upper hand on Pickett but Kate was being held at gunpoint. Sawyer was taken outside the cage and brought to his knees Pickett points gun to sawyers head and says this is for Colleen.
Walkie talkie goes off and Mr. Friendly asks Pickett if he?s near the cages which he replies yes. Give the walkie talkie to Kate.
Pickett - Why?
Mr. Friendly - Because if you don?t the Dr. is gonna let Ben die.
Kate gets talkie Jack tells her you have about an hour to run. Do you remember the story I told you when you stitched me up on the beach. She replies yes. When your safe call me back and tell me the story. She replies I can?t leave. Jack yells to her do it Kate. Run

Four covered military trucks rumble down a dirt road in procession, shattering the peace and quiet that had, moments ago, permeated the air on this small deserted island. The gravel crackling under the tires and the collective roar of the engines flushes a small flock of birds from their resting spot in the bushes that line the road. At the end of the road there are three well-oversized huts, two of which are larger than the other, but equally sized to one another. The hut on the right is clearly marked with the sign of females, while the one on the left is marked with that of males. In the center looms the smallest of the three. A giant sign is posted in the middle of its roof for all to see, labeling it the Community Room.
In each of the four vehicles, four blindfolded people sit–-two men and two women. All are aware that they are not alone, but none knows who shares the occupied space.
The first vehicle slows as it comes closer to the huts, drawing out the already half-hour long journey. Inside, the silence is broken.
“...are we there, yet...?†asks a small female voice. She bites her bottom lip and grins, hoping for some sort of response so that she might get to guess who is in the vehicle with her. Her name is Aislynn and she hails from Zephyr Cove, Nevada.
The tall man sitting beside her turns his head to the voice reflexively, although he can’t see her. “I sure hope so, sweetness; my ass is going number by the second,†he replies with a grin.
“Sawyer?†another female voice asks. She has an Australian accent and she sounds fairly certain, despite the question in her voice. Claire Littleton reaches back and scratches her head just underneath the blindfold, where the hair underneath it has become sticky and itchy with sweat from the heat.
“That you, Mamacita?†Sawyer asks, laughing. He rolls his neck in a circle and grins at the fantastic cracking sound it makes.
Aislynn can feel her eyes widening under the blindfold. There’s just no way, is there?!
“Who else is here?†Claire asks. “Kate?†she tries.
“If you’re talking about me,†Aislynn answers meekly, “I’m not Kate.â€
“I was talking about you,†Claire says, “who are you, then?â€
Aislynn feels her face redden slightly as Sawyer’s arm brushes across her chest as he stretches. Her cheeks burn harder when he apologizes. “It’s okay,†she replies dumbly, not really knowing what else to say. “I'm Aislynn,†she adds as an afterthought to Claire.
“Aislynn, like, from LVI?†asks a new male voice that sounds as though it’s across the truck from Aislynn.
“LVI?†Claire and Sawyer ask simultaneously.
Choosing to ignore them, Aislynn nods. Then, she remembers that this new voice can’t see her. “Yes,†she finally says. “Who is that?†she asks the voice.
“Hey Ais!†the voice says excitedly, happy to be in the presence of a “familiar face.†“It’s Colin!â€
Charlie Pace fidgets in place. He’s frustrated by the fact that he can’t see anything and, worse, that it’s so damn quiet in here. No one has said a word and it has to have been at least twenty minutes since he was blindfolded and loaded into the back of this truck. He was the first, he thinks, because the truck stopped three more times, briefly, but hasn’t stopped again since. “How many of us are in here?†he asks, finally, curiosity getting the best of him.
“Is that you, Charlie?â€
Reflexively, Charlie turns his head and frowns when it doesn’t help him see any better. “John?†he asks.
“Who else is in here?†John Locke asks.
“I’m here,†Sun replies.
“Sun?†Charlie guesses.
Sun nods. “Yes.â€
“Is there anyone else?†Locke asks, stretching and flexing his toes in his boots absently.
Ruth can’t believe her ears. It must be some sort of mistake. Or even, perhaps, some sort of crazy coincidence. There’s just no way that she’s really sitting in the back of some truck with Charlie Pace, John Locke, and Sun Kwon. “Uh...there’s...me...†she stammers, unsure of how else to reply.
Ever the popular response, Charlie asks, “Kate?â€
“...no...†Ruth replies slowly, still too confused and in the process of trying to take it in to correct him.
There is a short pause. “Shannon?†Locke asks incredulously.
“Shannon’s dead,†Charlie replies, annoyed, as if it is the stupidest thing he’s ever heard. Truthfully, it is the stupidest thing he’s ever heard.
“My name is Ruth,†she says quietly, finally recollecting herself.
“Ow!†Jen shouts, shoving the person beside her. “Jeez; watch it!†She gently massages the back of her head where the person has just punched her, probably while stretching their arms and not realizing her close proximity.
“Sorry,†a male replies sheepishly. “I didn’t realize you were sitting so close.â€
“I didn’t realize you were sitting so close, or I’d have warned you ahead of time to watch it,†Jen says bitterly.
“Calm down, you guys,†another male voice replies. “I’m sure it was an accident.â€
Jen rolls her eyes beneath her blindfold and crosses her arms over her chest. “That didn’t make it hurt any less,†she retorts.
“Who’s all in here?†a fourth voice, this one female, asks.
There’s a long pause in which no one speaks.
“Fine,†the fourth voice says, as the woman cracks her knuckles.
“You shouldn’t do that,†the male voice belonging to Jen’s assailant says, “it’s not good for your joints.â€
“Okay, I’ll start,†Jen says finally, overcome with curiosity. “Hi. I’m Jen, and I just got punched the back of the head.†She grins a little as she says it, no longer angry about the blow to the head, and the grin is evident in her voice.
Prodded by the forgiving sound in Jen’s voice, the person beside her speaks next. “Hi. I’m Jack, and I’m sorry I hit you in the head, Jen,†he says.
A short pause is followed by general laughter. When it dies down, the woman across the truck from Jack speaks. “Hi. I’m Steph, and I’m a knuckle-cracker.â€
More laughter fills the air and then the last person speaks. “Hi,†the guy says, following their lead, “I’m Warren, and I’m a Chronic Peace-Keeper.â€
“Hi, Warren,†the two girls deadpan and both begin to giggle.
Letting out a sigh, Marcus drums idly on his thigh with his fingertips. “This sucks,†he mutters.
“You’re telling me,†a female voice beside him says, “we’ve been in this truck forever and we’re totally blindfolded!â€
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Marcus sighs again.
“You’re kidding!†a second male voice cries out sarcastically. “Here I thought the world had just been engulfed in blackness,†he added with mock relief, “I’m glad to hear it’s just a blindfold, though. I wasn’t quite ready for the Apocalypse.â€
Beside him, a woman snorts in effort to halt her own laughter. “You’re funny,†she says, almost without humor. “What’s your name?â€
“I’m Paul,†he replies.
“I’m Kate,†she says.
“I know a girl named Kate,†the other female replies vaguely.
“Good for you,†Marcus replies, this time not bothering with the effort against rolling his eyes beneath the blindfold. “I’m Marcus,†he announces.
“Nikki,†the fourth girl says. “Gosh, we’ve been on the road a long time...â€
Paul sighs and frowns. “I know, like, we’re in a truck or something,†he replies, making himself sound as ditzy as he possibly can.
“I know!†Nikki replies with a gasp, the mockery in his voice lost on her. “I wonder where we’re going...â€
“We’re probably on the road to idiocy,†Marcus says with a stifled chuckle.
“You think?†Nikki replies curiously.
“Oh, at this rate, Nikki,†he replies, “I’m pretty sure of it.â€
The first of the vehicles slows to a stop.
“Hey, do you think we’re finally here?†Colin asks, stretching his arms over his head.
“God, I hope so,†Claire replies with a groan. “My legs are completely numb.â€
“Your legs and my ass, Mamacita,†Sawyer jokes, grinning.
“Count me in for numbness, too,†Aislynn says, laughing. “I hope we’re here...â€
“Hey, easy!†Jen snaps as someone leads her out of the vehicle roughly. “I don’t need my epitaph to say that I was killed falling out of some truck in the middle of East BF.â€
Jack laughs and rests a hand on her shoulder after groping the air trying to find it. “I won’t let ‘em rough you up, I promise,†he says.
“Oh sure,†Jen laughs. “Thanks.â€
Warren is led out of the truck next, and last, Steph. The four of them are walked up the rest of the road, past the other players of the game, some of whom are still in the process of being unloaded, and into the center hut.
Inside, though the four of them still can’t see it, there is a gigantic touch-screen television in the middle of the room. Surrounding it are two matching sectional couches, a few random recliners, three love seats and a coffee table just in front of the center love seat. All of the furniture is arranged with perfect symmetry.
Just in front of the television, there is a large table with sixteen jerseys laid out side by side. Each jersey has a name on the back and there are two different colors. Eight of them are red; the other eight are blue.
Steph, Warren, Jen, and Jack are walked up to one of the sectionals and are gently guided down to sit on it.
“Well, that was exciting,†Steph jokes, eliciting giggles and laughter from the other three.
The rest of the players, too, are slowly led inside and guided down onto the couches.
“Ooh, softer seating!†Nikki croons.
“Oh, my God...†Jen mutters under her breath, raising her eyebrows and scrunching her nose with irritation, getting a snort of laughter from Jack.
When the last of the players, Claire, is sitting down on the second sectional, a voice from the television speakers fills the room.
“Welcome, players, to Sur-Reality TV: the Challenge,†it says. Kate, Sawyer, and Jack instinctively look up sharply at the familiarity of the sound of the voice. “You are here to compete for a grand prize of one million dollars.â€
“Hell yeah!†Sawyer shouts, quickly forgetting the chill that ran down his spine at the sound of the voice.
“You will be split into two teams that have been chosen randomly. When I read off your names, please come forward and take the jersey with your name on it. Half of the jerseys are red, while the other half are blue. The color of yours is the color of your team. After the teams have been revealed, you will go to the respective male and female huts to claim your beds and unpack. Socialization may take place during or after unpacking, but not before. All of your luggage has already been transported to the sleeping quarters. Tomorrow morning at ten o’clock, I will give you your first assignment, here in this room.â€
“A lot of talent he assumes we have, if he thinks we can even walk by ourselves, let alone find a shirt with our name on it while blindfolded,†Ruth says sarcastically, shifting herself to be more comfortable.
“Maybe they’ll let us take off our blindfolds,†Nikki offers.
“Oh, you think?†Sawyer retorts.
“Maybe,†she says again. “I hope so.â€
“...are you kidding me, right now?†Jen asks loudly, purposefully heavily lacing her words with annoyance.
Before Nikki can reply, the voice speaks again. “Now, please remove your blindfolds, but do not begin to converse.†The voice pauses for a moment and everyone takes off their blindfolds, looking around at one another. Some clearly recognize one another, while others look totally lost.
“Nikki,†the voice calls out, and she stands, strutting across the room, almost comically so, and then back again, settling down on her spot on the couch between Marcus and Paul, red shirt in hand.
“John.â€
Locke stands and, too, retrieves his shirt–-this one, blue–-and resumes his seat.
When the group is finished, they can see that the Red Team consists of Jen, Marcus, Aislynn, Warren, Nikki, Charlie, Claire, and Sawyer. On the other side of the coin...Locke, Sun, Colin, Ruth, Jack, Steph, Paul, and Kate are now assigned to the Blue Team.
Slowly, everyone rises and, looking around at one another, but willing themselves not to speak, makes their way into their respective sleeping quarters.
