Does anyone know how to save a file so the effects can be saved without having to save the effect within SV? What I mean is, I have seen some tutorials on Youtube, like colorings, being uploaded and they post the link to the sony vegas file, so when you open it in SV, the effect is there to be used right away without having to add anything to the video within the Video FX.

February 2013
Contest: Guilty Pleasure Flicks
Deadline: March 4th - extended!
The Details
We all have them. The movies that are so bad, so cheesy, so over the top and silly that it's no wonder that they flopped. But, we adore them. We adore the melodramatic acting, the horrible storytelling, the cheap effects, everything that makes it a guilty pleasure movie.
That's what this month's contest is about. Since it's February and Valentine's Day is coming up, we want to see your love for those movies that you watch repeatedly, over and over again with no shame even though society tells you your love for this movie is displaced. Maybe you're too afraid to tell people that you love this movie, maybe you wear your love for this film proudly as a badge of honour. Either way, we want to see your love for that ONE guilty pleasure movie this month! And for extra fun (not a requirement), you might like to use a guilty pleasure song, too.
Maybe your secret guilty pleasure movie is Spice World, or Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, The Mighty Ducks or The Last Song, whatever it is, don't be afraid to show your love for it. And who knows, you might find another closeted fan out there
Have fun, we can't wait to see these vids!
The Rules
Specific Contest Rules:
• - Make a video showing us your love for ONE guilty pleasure movie.
• - No TV shows or multifandom.
• - No AUs, Crossovers and OCs (Original Characters) please!!
• - Running time should be no longer than 5 minutes. We suggest the 3 - 5 minute range.
• - The more creative, the better. Don't be afraid to take risks.
• - When entering your video on the Submit page, you MUST enter "February 2013 contest submission" exactly in your vid's description.
General Contest Rules:
• - Contest submissions should be entered through the Submit page
• - All regular submissions Rules apply.
• - Only one entry per vidder
• - Videos already submitted and RELEVANT can be submitted again, but we would rather see something fresh. (Please contact a CM if you wish to enter a previously-submitted video)
• - Please do not use Rapidshare or Yousendit as your only hosting place.
• - If you're using Youtube as your primary link, please also provide us with an alternative link. Far too often, YT is either disabled or muted by the time the contest is ready to be judged. Mediafire and Sendspace are just a coupleof the sites out there that can be used as reliable backup links.
• - Keep in mind that however you choose to host your video, it must be available to be watched at least until after the deadline has passed. If we can not access your video at the time of judgment it will not be considered.
• - Have fun!

This month’s featured member is the incredibly talented Ali (aradnea)!
Ali has been a part of LVI since 2008, and her 37 videos have all earned gold VPs and CPs! Her vids are always very well edited and entertaining, and range from AUs to shippy vids to ensemble vids and character studies. All her vids are done with equal amounts of talent and dedication, and we’re always excited to see what else Ali has to offer!
1) What got you interested in vidding?
I remember it was somewhere between second and third Harry Potter movie I was following this fanpage called Mugglenet (still kicking) and saw the very first fanmade video in my life. As I recall, YouTube did not even exist yet, so in order to watch videos you had to download it on your PC. Which, with my slow connection, took hours. I watched couple of those videos and after awhile I started swapping music in them, for something more "fitting" Of course, I never published any of those "swapped" videos
Then LOST started and I loved it so much that I wanted to make my very own music video about it. I started downloading clips and episodes. And the rest is history
2) Do you have a tip, trick, or technique to share?
Kill the song Pick a song and listen to it over and over again, until you know every word and every sound in it.
Side effect: once you are finished with the video, you probably won't be able to listen to that song for a long time.
Happens to me every time
3) What are your favorite current fandoms?
Glee, Fringe, The Hunger Games - those are the ones that I vid most, but there are many many more
4) What was your first vid and what is your favorite vid you've done?
My first video ever was LOST ensemble vid to some fast beat song. It was made in Windows Movie Maker and aside from hitting some of the beats, it was totally unedited. I remember that I got only one comment that said something like: "thanks, I was looking for that whole scene"
My favourite? Gee, that's a tough one. I got couple of favourites and each for different reasons. Can I name 3?
Ramalama - cause it was my first video that ever won anything.
It's been awhile - cause with this one I used effects and transitions that I couldn't figure out before.
The funeral - cause it took me a long time to finish and in the end I was really proud of it.
5) Do you have any goals as far as skill improvement or dream projects?
I would love to be able to do awesome manips using advanced masking skills. I like to think that the only thing standing in my way is my laziness, but I don't really know if I have the skills yet. I guess that vidding is a very dynamic branch of art, where you can always learn something new.
As for the dream projects: if I could edit videos and get paid for it, it would be a dream come true
6) You have made some awesome AU vids. How do you go about coming up with storylines for them?
Well, part of the AU videos (especially the ones that I do with Nina) are based on a role playing game.
But aside from that, believe it or not, I just go with the flow. I almost never have a vidding plan when I start to make a video. I have some ideas for couple of scenes and that's it.
Maybe that's why I have so many unfinished projects
7) You seem to vid for a variety of fandoms with all kinds of music. Do you choose a song before deciding to vid something, or do you pick a fandom first?
I do both, actually. Sometimes I come across a perfect song that I know will match some fandom perfectly. Like it was with Lost and Found for Glee or Dance on our graves for Fringe. I listen to that song and I see glimpses of scenes that I want to edit. Then I just have to fill in the blanks and voilà
Having idea for a video first is so much harder. Sometimes I literally spend hours searching for a song that will be of use. And usually those projects end up being unfinished. But sometimes they go pretty well, like Fairytale I remember that I wanted to vid Once upon a time and I wanted it to be uplifting, so I just typed in "fairytale" on YouTube. And I got pretty lucky
Featured videos:
Fairytale - Once Upon a Time - A fun, upbeat, and clever Once Upon a Time ensemble vid.
The Hunger Games - Sail - a rockin' Hunger Games tribute that perfectly encompasses the chaotic storyline
Dollhouse Movie Trailer - a superbly edited, intense, movie-style trailer for the TV show Dollhouse
Thanks for being such a great member of the site, Ali!

| LVI's Featured CM for February! |

LVI Council ::

This month's Featured CM is HobbitRockGod aka Eryn!
Eryn has been a member of the LVI for more than five years now and part of the LVI Council since 2011. She has contributed 23 videos to the site, covering a huge variety of vidding genres in a creative and well-conceived way. We know Eryn as an active member in the community and on the Council and as a very sweet and kind person.
1) What got you interested in vidding?
I discovered vidding around the same time I discovered Lost. I started watching Lost and then somehow ended up watching fanvids on youtube, and through there discovered LVI and wanted to give vidding a shot myself! LVI was a great place for that; everyone was always really welcoming and encouraging.
2) Do you have a tip, trick, or technique you'd like to share?
I have to find a song before I can vid anything. When I’m listening to music I’m constantly trying to fit songs with characters or fandoms, and then when I find one I think works I listen to it over and over. Lyric interpretation is the most important part of a vid, for me, so I really listen to the lyrics and imagine what scenes I could put on what lyrics. If I can’t really envision anything, I usually don’t even try to vid it.
3) What are your favorite current fandoms?
I am always looking for new fandoms to get into! I haven’t actually vidded many of my current favorites, but right now I’m really into Once Upon a Time, The Walking Dead, The Avengers, Being Human U.K. (though I only watched the first 3 series’), Community, The Office…
4) What was your first vid and what is your favorite vid you've done?
My first vid was a Sawyer/Kate vid with Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie. It was up on here for awhile, actually, but I think lately youtube has taken it down. I’m not really shedding any tears over it – it wasn’t very good, but I was proud at the time! My favorite vid is my latest completed one, “I Like It Like That” – it was a lot of fun to do and I think it came out really well.
5) Do you have any goals as far as skill improvement or dream projects?
Right now, my goal is to get back into viding regularly! Thanks to a series of unfortunate computer-related issues, vidding’s been hard for me lately but I’m trying to get back in the swing of things! I have a lot of vid ideas I want to do… I won’t go into specifics because if I do I’m afraid they won’t get done, but I have some character study ideas, a couple ensemble vid ideas, and one shippy vid I want to do. My goal really is to make vids that I’m happy with in the end!
6) You cover a great variety of genres in your vids: Relationship and character studies, humor, action... Which is your favorite genre to vid to and why?
I think my favorites are probably character studies. I just feel like I get to put so much love into those vids, because I generally only do character studies for characters I really adore and I get to work on showcasing exactly why I think this character is so great.
7) You have mentioned that you like to try to make people see a fandom/character/ship in a different way than they have before. How do accomplish this?
It kind of goes back to the previous question – I just want to show exactly why I personally love a character or fandom or ship so much. Sometimes my favorite characters aren’t exactly well-loved by the entire fandom, so I like to show their sympathetic side. Or I just go in and try to show every aspect to a character or ship, maybe not necessarily just the flattering traits they have. Flaws are what make a character or ship real to me, so I like to show those when I vid them. I guess what I try to do is share exactly how I view a character, which may be different than how other people do, and maybe get people to see them the way I do for a few minutes, even if I don’t entirely change their mind!
Featured Videos:
Brighter Than the Moon: a feel-good and upbeat multi-fandom character study
I Like It Like That: a fun, multi-fandom tribute to bloopers and gag reels, 1st place winner in LVI's April 2012 contest.
Leave Out All the Rest: a great in-depth relationship study for Shannon & Boone from Lost
Thank you, Eryn, for all the great work you do at LVI!
