I said yes because they do it for BtVS everywhere.... There are like hundreds of sites that have vid awards and i think its a great idea..

I'll tripple that! I think it's a really great idea for the vidders out there. Great vidders deserve recognition.

agreed that it's a great idea. Wanted to do this sooner, actually, but we're kinda busy, and I think I remember saying that it might not be too popular because it means pitting all our forum friends against each other

sigh. On one hand, it will be awesome for the winners of the awards, but on the other hand it will mean a lot of people who won't get them, even if they may be deserving of them. What also makes this a tough decision is it probably means council members pitted against other members, which doesn't automatically mean anything, of course, but the council is, in theory, suposed to consist of the best vidders we can find (I sound like such an ass saying that.... I really don't trully think that about my videos I just hope you know!

) but for instance look at Lostzilla: a video by him would be a big player in any award show or contest. If he was to enter in a contest before he became a council member, it wouldn't be an issue really, but NOW that he'd be part of the people choosing which vids win, which makes it seem kinda unfair if he was to win anything. That, and for us council members, voting on each other's videos is really awkward. We "see" each other every day, and work together all the time, so any time we need to vote, we can't help but think about that nagging voice "are you just voting that video that mark because you're friends, or does it actually deserve it?", or, if it's really good "are you sure you're not just overcompensating for that friend thing and putting that video a lower mark than it deserves?". Either way, it's tough to judge, at least for me

Now, there's the idea of making it a public vote, but the problem is the winners would probably be the most popular ones rather than the best-done ones, such as a funny comedy video with some link to some other high-hit-rate site like Ebaumsworld or something (yes, I think we do have a couple like that.

They get a lot of hits because of it).

So the only ways I can think of doing this and making it fair are:
1. bear through the council voting awkwardness
2. ban council member videos from the running
3. make a vote where everyone votes on the videos, and votes a POINT value rather than yes/no type 9though some people would, of course, screw this up probably by marking their favourites 10/10 no matter how good they are.

So basically..... I can't think of a good way to do it

But someone do so and we could very-well do it!

But for now, treat being put up on the site as an award. I treat it that way, because every video voted up here has beat many many videos to the spot. I'm immensely proud of every video on here, they're just wonderful. I wouldn't be surprised if Lost had the best vidders of all fandoms!

good time to say I agree with the banning of council members from submitting--not because we are elite or whatever, but because--

a. we vote on it

b. i'm too lazy to do it

c. see a & b

l did vote yes but personally it doesn't really matter to me. Getting a vid on the site is Awarding enough for me.
