Basing a vid on a character in TV or film?

A lot of trailers are bad, don't tell you the film, or give too much away, and often make you not want to see great films so why not re-edit a trailer to get people's attention about it?

-I would like to see a "flashback" to the July 2005 contest. It was to create a commercial. It would be fun to do a spin on that contest where the products had to be ones featured in a show but don't exist in the real world, for example
Dharma brand products (Lost) or Dunder-Mifflin paper (The Office).

-A contest where the location of the show has to be the star of the video, not the characters. The location can be real or fictional. But the video should show what makes the location special. If you chose the island on Lost, is it the scenic beauty, the mysteries, etc.

- A contest where we have to use official or fan-made instrumental versions of popular songs for the video. A favorite of mine is the instrumental version of Coldplay's Clocks.

-A contest about why we love vidding. Vidders would need to make a video showcasing 1-5 reasons why they vid. Is it just for fun? To introduce people to new fandoms/songs/ or artists?

-Relating to characters contest. We all have certain characters that we personally connect with for whatever reason. Maybe your friends joke with you that you act/look/ talk like a certain character. The challenge of this contest is to make a video about this character and illustrate why this character is like you. This contest is just about making a little fun of yourself and magnifying some of your silly qualities. Are you clumsy? Always have your head in a book? Are you always cracking jokes?

Macaila gave me an idea.

Song covers. So many song covers change the meaning or the tone of a song. For instance a happy song can be changed into something darker or dramatic. Or a angry/angst song can be changed into something so much more happy.

Pick a cover of a song that changes the meaning or the tone of a song.

The best example I have is The Turtles Happy Together; Filter covered the song making it more dark and scary.

30 Seconds From Mars covered Bad Romance making it more angst.

Love your idea, Brooke. I agree that there a lot of covers that give a new meaning and atmosphere to the original song.

Here's another idea , a contest where we use a song or jingle from a commerical. It could be either a jingle that is specifically linked to a brand or product or an indie song that isn't well known except as the song featured in that commercial.
