When I first started fooling around with video editing I was using windows movie maker, and it quickly became apparent to me that I needed a better program to use for what I wanted to accomplish. So, after some very minimal research I decided to go with power director. Since then, I've come to realize that it seems like the majority of vidders are using sony vegas and so I'm considering making the transition myself.

I'm just curious as to how similar these programs are. Will I pretty much be able to load up sony vegas and have a general idea of what I'm doing? Or is it something completely different that I will have to relearn from scratch?

If anyone here is familiar with both programs and could shed some insight it would be much appreciated.

What I would suggest you do is get the trial version of Sony Vegas which you can find on their website to familiarize yourself with the program. To see if you like it before you make the purchase.

To be honest I've not heard of Power Director so I don't what the similarities and differences would be.

That's what I did and it really helped me in deciding what to do.

I also suggest getting the trial of Sony Vegas and seeing if it's something you like. I haven't used Power Director before, but I have used Windows Movie Maker and I'm so glad that I found out about SV because it has helped me so much over the years and has helped me become a better vidder all around. I've only used SV the last couple of years and there's still so much I don't know, but I'm learning new things everyday.

Didn't realize SV was sooo expensive omg. Sony wants like 600 bucks if you buy it directly from their site.

I'm thinking about making a bid on this one on ebay:

It's definitely worth it right?
