Sarah Michelle Gellar Will return To The Cw, says President.
Like any sane TV viewer and avid ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ fan, we were overjoyed to learn that Sarah Michelle Gellar was returning to the network that made her famous, even if it was a more female-skewing soap opera series in ‘Ringer.’ So while not altogether surprising – given its critical reception and impressively low ratings – part of us still died inside to see the chosen one cancelled off the network this past week. Still, might Gellar have a different future at the network?

Speaking at today’s CW Upfront presentation, CW President Mark Pedowitz had a few choice words about the demise of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s TV return vehicle ‘Ringer,’ and where the actress might find a place in the future. ‘Ringer’ debuted to moderate numbers in its initial September 2011 premiere, though quickly fell off and faced an unfortunate break that affected its viewership. Says Pedowitz of the series:

I don’t think anything went wrong with ‘Ringer.’ I was happy it was there…. The show was well-crafted, well-produced, well-written, but it was a complicated serialized show.

After it finished a run in the fall and came back in January, the audience went somewhere else. And it just could not find the 18-34 demo that we hoped.

Still, one failed experiment does not a partnership break, and Pedowitz insists that Gellar could still find some place with the network. Explaining that Gellar herself understood the network’s decision to axe the show, and commenting on the number of Gellar fans who sent irate e-mails at ‘Ringer’s cancellation, Pedowitz vowed to bring SMG back to the network, either on another show or in a producing capacity. “She will be back on the CW in some form,” he claimed.

What say you? Was the cancellation of ‘Ringer’ justified, or should Sarah Michelle Gellar have been given more consideration in light of her history? What role would you like to see the actress take on The CW in the future?

<i>I disagree with what he said here, I don’t think anything went wrong with ‘Ringer.’ I was happy it was there…. The show was well-crafted, well-produced, well-written, but it was a complicated serialized show. There are plenty of shows that get renewed or 'saved' that have low ratings. Chuck, Dollhouse to name a few.

If this guy felt THIS strongly about Ringer he'd have kept it.

I think he's trying to save face with the fans who wanted the show to stay on. I think there was a good chunk of people who did not like this show; or gave up on it. I just think that the people who wanted to save it were VERY vocal and he wanted to pave things over.

Because I know A LOT of people are upset that Gossip Girl got picked up and Ringer didn't; BUT Gossip Girl deserves a finale season; and it's only like 11 episodes.
