You mean you don't toss toilet paper on trees and on a house and stuff as a Halloween prank over there?! You missed out on a vital part of childhood! _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

I liked 'there's been a murder' as one of your Scottish words.
... I need to watch 'Small Faces' again. Ahem. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

It really wouldn't be a scottish challange without it, would it?
Now that I'm thinking about it, I should have listed the words. Imagine peoples faces when they realise "Mul-guy" is spelled Milngavie! _________________

I'll do it for a pound. </Monty Python>
Anyway, when I was a teenager, I was somewhere around Peebles with my folks and my dad and I went into a pub -- never have I felt more foreign than there. I mean, the pub owner was a woman who was kissing a baby and they all looked at us like '... what.' And then told us the pub was closed. We took the hint and left. It wasn't a bad thing though -- it was kind of an amazing experience because of that; I'd imagine places like that are dying out. Oddly it's the main thing I remember about that trip. (I've been back to the UK several times since, and lived in Ireland, so yeah.)
We headed towards Edinburgh instead of towards Glasgow, but nevertheless...
(Liked Edinburgh, though walking around it is tough. It's very hilly!) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Cool! Nik, I think I pronounce everything about the same as you, which makes sense since we're from the same part of the country and have both spent a lot of time in CO/NM.
Kate-- "Q-Pon" drives me insane, too.
Debbie, your accent is beautiful! It was fun hearing you say the different Scottish words, too.
I haven't seen any other name for "daddy long legs". I wonder where they call it something else? _________________

This is really cool! Debbie, I LOVE your accent!
LOL, I say CYOU-pon. Actually, I say many of those words differently than anyone on here so far. Also, I call those "grandaddy long legs". Might have to make a video of myself. _________________ Heather |

You from Western or Eastern Tennessee, anyway? My mom's from Kinston (Eastern North Carolina), and her side of the family is from that area up through Raleigh-Durham and Greenville to South Boston, VA.
The people on that side of the family were tobacco merchants in the 20th century; my granddad worked for RJ Reynolds. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Aha! Can you still get Brunswick stew there?
Brunswick stew is the most delicious thing Southerners ever invented. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

I've never had it! But there's a restaurant here that serves it, my grandpa gets it sometimes. _________________ Heather |

What's that supposed to mean? Kidding! You should totally try it, provided you're not a vegetarian! _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.
