They're not being paid at all? O_o If it's just for merchandise than that's not as bad but I see how that can be unfair. It annoys me how when a film or TV show is made everyone knows the director but have never even heard of the writers.
That's a huge shame. Especially after everything. Has anyone heard about Heroes!? I mean, there's Greys Anatomy up there but I don't think I saw Heroes |

It's not so much about merchandise as it is digital media. Writers get paid a residual when the network airs their show. Every time it re-runs the writers get paid a small percent of the money that the network made.
This is not true with the internet. I could watch LOST on ABC.com 20 times in a row and the network would get paid by the advertisers who run their ads during the little breaks. The writers however do not get paid for anything. They do not receive a residual for the airing of their work. It's just not fair.
This should clear things up.

ETA: All of the videos I am posting are from the WGAamerica channel on youtube. It's like a live blog of all the writers on strike from the picket lines. I encourage everyone to check it out!

Heroes have filmed an alternate ending for episode 11 so the season will be ending on December 3rd with apparently no more episodes untill season 3 starts next year. You can get most of the news affecting heroes from Here _________________

So as far as I can tell, Lost has it better than the other shows. Apparantly Episode 8 of Season 4 will be like a mini-finale until the other episodes are filmed. So it's not as bad as I thought it would be. _________________

Yeah, Lost seems to have it the best so far. Next week, the writer's and whoever they're mad at, are going into negotiations again...man, I no it's practically impossible, but I hope that this ends like...next week!! _________________

Something like that...I'm not sure exactly, but I did hear something along those lines. This sucks! 2007-08 is going to be known as 'The Great Primetime Television Famine' AKA 'The GPTF'. Seriously! If someone doesn't let up, we aren't going to have anymore shows! I love TV! Movies are being affected too, and even the frikkin news has something to do with the writer's guild. _________________

Quote: | On January 25, 2008 it was announced that the WGA had made an interim agreement with Lions Gate and Marvel Studios. This is an incredibly promising deal for the strike as Lions Gate is a very well known production company. However, the AMPTP has commented on these types of agreements as "meaningless", although talks between them and WGA are to continue over the weekend and many critics believe the strike can be over within two weeks.
