So, since Hobbes has shown his clever and amazing 3d, I now finally feel like showing mine. 
For the last portfolio project, I just had to make 3 original clips, each around 5 seconds long, so I had to fit a story or mood in a very short amount of time. This is the first one I did:

And here's an early animation test of him that turned out pretty funny and in character:

^His name is P. Remember that promise I made on this board like a year ago that I was going to make a claymation short movie to show you guys? Well, I was planning a story that included this character, but I just couldn't follow through with the project. It would have been too hard. But learning this program, I decided to use him as a 3d character instead of a clay character.
Here's another portfolio clip, this time resembling a city:

And finally, hands playing a piano, with music. Not very proud of this animation (I rushed through it and the hands sometimes don't even look they're moving) but other than that I think it turned out okay.
Piano
After finishing the class, I downloaded a free trial of 3ds Max, a much better program, and practiced mostly modeling while learning it. Here are just pictures of some of the stuff I tried:

A lighting test (without the ear fully attached)
Textured (yes, it's supposed to be Elijah Wood)
An experiment with hair and fur:
And a Losty jungle scene (I borrowed the palm trees from a library, but I did set up the lighting and all else)

Those are so pro!!! 
Once again, I'm impressed by your movement. P's walking and jumping is really realistic and gorgeous. Nicely done!
(and likewise, the piano playing was right on)
Downtown is really cool - did you just whip up all those cars? How long did that take?
Wow, Elija looks great with 3ds Max! Cinema 4D has that hair thing too, it's really neat. Once I finally finish my latest vid, I can show you what I've been doing with it lol. |

The cars weren't very hard. I had already made a hovercraft from an earlier assignment, so all I did was tweak the hovercraft into a car, and then tweak that into multiple different cars, copying and pasting. It took a few hours. And glad you like my animation and the piano. 
I can't wait to see what you're doing with hair! I'm sure it'll be great. I tried to put hair on Elijah's head, but well, it turned out crappy no matter what I tried.

| ill tell yeah, if i ever need animation for anything, you two are the ones ill go to!!! thats some increadible stuff, especially the piano bit. On the software you use though, is there allot of math involved. Only reason i ask is because i played with some software when i was in middle school in some class, and it was very difficult to use, i dont know how the technology has changed since then, but i was just wondering whats involved in the process of making a moving bit of animation. |

As far as all my practical experience I've never used a bit of math. Which is why it's fun for me, because I hate math.  It's more like trying to deal with editing softwares or Photoshop. As far as difficulty, they keep getting easier and more intuitive with newer versions (sorry I sound like a salesperson).
I watched a demonstration and figured out that in 3ds Max you can also make parts vibrate, and control how much it vibrates and which parts of the body vibrate.  There's a ton of other cool stuff there.

Yep, very little math involved in most high-tech versions. though if you're Old School like me you use it a bit lol. You could conceivably do an entire animation from the programing/math side of things in Cinema 4d - and there are a lot of little things you can do, like make it so when you move an object - like a sphere shaped as a switch - it can affect other things, like dim or turn off a light. Kinda cool
But it's not necessary, and for amateur stuff it's not even recommended lol. |
