|
|
I am trying to post my first vid on the site, but the "Image Upload" part of submitting is making it impossible! I have the correct size image, file type (JPEG), etc.. but when I try to submit it, it says:
Quote: | Your Image Upload has special characters.
These are not allowed.
Please change your file name and try again. |
I have tried absolutely EVERYTHING! There are no special characters in the title, or in any subfolder that it is filed under. I have tried re-naming it, moving it, uploading on a different computer - nadda. I use an iBook - any suggestions for why this is happening?
Someone had posted this problem before on the forum, but they seemed to have fixed it themselves. Please help me! |

What's the filename of the image file, and the folder(s) it's in? i.e. after you browse to it and select it, what is the text in the little image field in the submit form?
You probably have a special character (like !&(*(&@^$_# etc) that's causing the problem. It might not be the kind of special character you're used to it being though , like an apostrophe or something. You just need to remove it from the file or folder your image is in (on your actual computer, not just from the text in that image field ) and it should work. |

Thanks for responding so quickly, Hobbes!
I titled the JPEG simply "skate" (without the quotations). The extension is skate.jpg, and it is filed under My iBook --> Pictures --> skate. I tried it on the upload page both with and without the ext. Next to the "Choose file" button, it would have the thumbnail and the correct title.
I also tried moving it to another folder, as well as out of my hard drive onto the desktop.
It's kind of funny that I can make this whole long, complex vid, but can't even manage to upload one bloody pic! What could it be? |

hmmmm, that's really strange then
Could you upload the pic to an image host, and then submitting with a different image (so then I can switch them manually)? It's really strange it's getting that error for you and nobody else , especially since obviously the file name isn't the problem.... grr... I wanna see that pic for myself and check out if its encoding or something is causing the problem .
What browser do you use btw? I assume you're using a mac operating system, right?

I know, I know. lol. When things like this happen, I usually refer to my motto: "technology sucks when it doesn't work right." But we'll figure it out... I hope lol.
(also, anyone else getting this same problem, speak up! ) |

God, YES! Absolutely the same problem, and I really don't know what's wrong, I was changing pic name like million times, and it's always have this "special characters" O_o
C:\Documents and Settings\Анна\Рабочий стол\season 3 tribute.jpg
^^^
this is what I have in "image upload" tag, and it always works fine with my other submissions last year, but now it always have "special characters" ... _________________

Ah, there you go!
it's the non-english characters "й", "б" etc in your folder names that are causing the problem Just move the image to your desktop and try again and it should work just fine .
The old LVI had a lot of security flaws - one of which was to allow those kinds of characters. They could have caused a lot of weird problems with the site if we let them stay unfortunately . So 5.0 is limited to the following characters:
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ !#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@[]^_{|}~
with the image upload field being slightly stricter, only allowing:
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ :\-.0123456789_
(and please don't test those yourself just to mess with it lol some of these don't work perfectly yet.) |

Thanks it must be because of the russian than ..BUT, my image is on desktop - and on russian it's "Рабочий стол" as in mage tag, and I totally don't know how to change that, I must have english version of windows or smth like that O_O....I will try to find a place where it's only would be english adress of pic than
ETA: Yes, it works , I find a place where it's only english, I think if others have the same problem, you must copy your pic to Disc C space _________________

Yay! It worked!
Sorry I really didn't intend it to be this annoying for non-english members hmmm... I may have to rethink how to keep security but include the extra characters too. Oh well, at least for now it works with this method
Sorry for the inconvenience |
