I keep looking over the web for Vegas 6, but, somewhere it said: "£49.99", then another place said: "£299.99".

Now im 13 in a week, so I dont have much money, I would get the "Vegas Movie Studio" - which I saw for somethin like £60, but from what i've heard, you cannot "Mask" on that program (which again from what i've heard is the key to good Splitscreening)...

Any links/prices/programs, that are less than £100 ($200) - would be great...as when I try and uninstall - then reinstall my Vegas 7.0 trial, it doesnt work

Well, if it means anything, I use Vegas Movie Studio, so if you've seen any of my recent vids, that gives you an idea of what it can do. (Or at least, what I've gotten it to do so far... )

The "mask" thing that Movie Studio can't do is this: if you're trying to "cut out" around a person for example to try and put them in a scene that they actually weren't in, then the full version of Vegas lets you do a little dot-to-dot thing around the person so you can cut very close to them. If they move in that scene, you have to keep moving the dots or they'll wander out of the "person-sized hole" you already cut out for them.

Without that masking ability, you can still use the cookie cutter (which can't get a very precise shape around a person but can get you close) or if they happened to be against a blue or green background (such as the ocean or the jungle), you can use the chroma keyer to bluescreen/greenscreen the background into transparency and put a new background in behind them.

In my own humble opinion, that one feature isn't worth the extra price to me. (The full version of Vegas also gives you unlimited audio and video tracks while Movie Studio allows you 4 of each. However, I've never used more than 3 video or audio tracks at one time -- and that's with all the animating and split-screening that I do -- so that hasn't been a problem for me at all. )

So, while the full version would be nice, I'm still extremely happy with Movie Studio and it was well, well, WELL worth its price to me. *huggles Vegas Movie Studio*

I got Vegas Movie Studio and you can't mask on it but it's still pretty damn good! A huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge improvement on WMM though.

I got mine from play.com, it was £49.99 including p+p.

You can get a months free trial here here. If you wanna see if you like it first.
But make sure that you uninstall the trial before you install the full version.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help

It's just, I can't really splitscreen atm. The cropper is a bit dodgy IMO. I don't really want the characters in a different scene, I just want to cut round them so that they can actually fit with another clip. The trackmotion function doesn't really work, as it moves all the clips on that "timeline row", instead of just the one.

The main reason why I want masking is cause it's easier to splitscreen...(I think) -- and i'm really struggling to do that.

Thanks again Ais and Ashleigh

I had that same problem with the track motion thing: it moved the entire timeline over instead of just the one clip. I figured I was just doing something wrong, lol!

About the difference between masking and using the cookie cutter... Mainly it's just that the mask lets you get more of a defined edge around things (again, up until they move ). I almost always end up using the cookie cutter (playing around with the feathering on the edges and the shape and size of the cutter itself) as well as using the pan/crop tool to help place the clip and zoom in/out to split-screen. Of course, it always depends on what you're really trying to get the final thing to look like! If you're trying to hide the fact that it's two difference scenes being used together, really feather the edges on the cookie cutter and play around with the size of it and that can give you a nice blur between the two scenes. If you're going for a more dramatic look, then leave the feathering off and let it have a harder edge. It really just depends on what you're "going for" at the time!

If there's anything in particular I can do to help, just let me know! I might not know the answer, but I usually can find somebody to ask about it!

How to get the track motion to work right, you mean? Or how to do the cookie cutter/pan/crop/feather/yo-ho!split-screeny stuff I mentioned later?

*is having a blonde moment* I never have actually gotten the track motion thing to work like I think it was supposed to... Or maybe it IS working right and you just have to put that clip on a timeline by itself and not use that timeline for anything else... 'Course with Vegas Movie Studio you only have 4 video tracks to you could run out of room pretty fast like that...

Izzy, you could just download the full version off of bittorrent. though it is illeagle so you do have the chances of getting caught, but the full version is soo damn expensive, even when you upgrade it from movie maker, that the risk is almost worth it, in my opinion.

It's like a 3% chance of being caught and even smaller chance of it being pursued.
They often come with a keygen
