I didn't even realise how they'd brought him back until I got out and overheard someone say it. I was like, "Oh yeah.. how DID they bring him back?"

Saw this movie on Sunday. I was pretty disappointed with it, speaking as someone who really liked the first movie - and was surprised that I did, granted.

First things first: The good news.
Spoiler:

Jack Sparrow's opening sequence was crazy and pretty brilliant. It was spacey and looked like something out of a Nicholas Roeg movie. I wish they could have established a bit more about Davy Jones' locker, as I quite liked it. I liked the use of the crabs repeated when Calypso turns into them, but feel that was a missed potential.

Now, the bad news:
Spoiler:

Will and Elizabeth are not interesting characters, and - despite Barbossa being around, and Geoffrey Rush having a good, or should I say arribly good, time with the role - the scenes before Jack was introduced dragged like hell. I liked Chow Yun Fat and wish they could have done more with his character; his attempted rape of Elizabeth was poorly executed, hamfisted, and wrecked the character. It's probably good he got killed off immediately thereafter.

Like someone before said, the real villain - Dutch East India guy - went down without a fight. His goals of progress at any cost (from what little I could tell) seem diametrically opposed to Jack's romantic view of piracy; it would have been interesting to see them play out.

The special effects were on overload; there were simply too many of them. At some point, special effects stop amazing and start overwhelming. Since this is a Bruckheimer film, it's not amazing that such a line was crossed. The script was poor, and Jack Sparrow lost a lot of his zing, which was disappointing; the guy has a gift for gab, and the script didn't use it.

Oh well.

Oh well.

That sounds like you understood all that was happening in the film . Well, if that's the case, congrats - you're a lot smarter than me!
Actually, I did get what was happening most of the time, but I got the "what" instead of the "why". No reasoning behind half the actions... or at least none with my imperfect brain could see lol. (but for some reason, I seem to think if I couldn't get it, then... how does everyone else get it?)

(Same warning as before. Not a happy review.)
Spoiler:

I gotta agree with the rest of that too - but I didn't find them to be nearly as big offenses. I actually kinda liked the scenes before they found Jack, for instance - they made more sense. They were before the hour-long double-crossing battle thing.
Btw, was it EVER explained why Barbossa was brought back to life (or HOW?). I recall brief mentions of it, but... yeah. And why was he there to help Jack? Or help anyone, for that matter? and where was his stupid apple that they kept on putting in so poetically in the first and second films? Where is the continuance? Do these people care about these characters at all?!
Oh, I'm on a rant again. Hmm...

lol, here's an analogy: you know those flash videos on Newgrounds, where amateur video makers make big composition things of all kinds of characters in major crude and funny fights - e.g. "ROBO-Sonic vs Mario #3". They're completely random and filled with cool but stupid moves, like all of a sudden sonic will suddenly shoot a "Kamaya-MAYA!" out at mario (if you never watched DBZ, nm). They're crude, stupid, but fun.
That is PotC3. Fun, but crude, stupid, and amateur.

I watched the movie yesterday and I gotta admit that I'm really disappointed. I loved the first two POTC movies (though the first one is still the best one, IMO) and the third part was like a huge letdown.

Spoiler:

The story is confusing and the whole Calypso-plot line was kinda far-fetched and not that useful or important.

I actually enjoyed the first half of the movie. The story that played in Singapore was quite interesting and had some good, funny moments. Also, I really liked Chow Yun Fat and I wish he had a bigger role.
I then got quite bored during the second part though. Too confusing, the effects weren't that great either and the showdown in that swirl was pretty lame! Moreover, the "wedding" during the battle was simply ridiculous!

They really messed up most of the main characters! The only one I still really enjoyed was Barbossa. I missed the humour, the light-hearted moments and the great action sequences of the first two movies. They tried to focus too much on the "story" which simply wasn't any good!

It was not overall bad, but very very weak for a final part (that is, if it was the final part of POTC).

Geez, I hope that at least Shrek 3 and Harry Potter 5 will be better than this here!

LOL I love the fact you put that in quotes. Exactly!

I was really disappointed with this movie! I just don't understand where they went from the storyline. When you think about it, the storyline traveled so far from the first film, it was like "Whaaat?"

Spoiler:

I couldn't keep up with what exactly was going on most of the time, lol. Maybe i'm a little slow, but the plot jumped around more than... something that jumps alot. It was really funny, because I kept turning to my friend going, "This makes no sense." Eventually, I turned to her and found her asleep. She had given up, lol.

The part that bothered me the most was the whole Will/Elizabeth thing, because it was so stupid. Correct me if i'm wrong, but what I gathered was that he can only see her once every ten years? What the hell? That is in no way a happy ending, or even a decent one. It seems to me they set it up for a fourth one. Like, it could go either way with that ending. It could stay ended, or they could revive it for a fourth film.

I liked Jack's opening scene, but I feel it didn't belong in that movie, you know? It was really good, and of course Johnny played it to it's fullest, but it just was a little out of place. I thought Geoffry Rush was excellent too, given what he had to work with. But all in all, I would not spend my money to see it again. Plus, i'm poor. My checking account has like fifteen bucks in it currently. Lol.
